How classified sites create sub domains?

Hi, i want to launch classified site and i have seen so many sites. these sites show sub domains like (jodhpur.abc.com).

My question is : they create thousands sub domains or they do it from .htaccess or via ip?

please suggest me.

    You can do this with wordpress and the multisite setup. It isn't that hard to do either as I did it myself recently. I opted for creating subcategories but the other option is to use sudomains. It is an amazing configuration and each subdomain, subcategory has it's own dashboard settings yet only one installation of wordpress.

      It is possible if you own your a server and can access apache files and so on. Other than that it will take some doing I think. Maybe take a good look how wordpress manages it and nick their ideas.

    I've set up a site before that had thousands of subdomains. I did it dynamically from PHP, while sending a wildcard domain at the IP address. If you're interested in doing things this way, look up Wildcard DNS Entries, and Wildcard Apache Configurations. All I did was use the subdomain as raw data, to look up which data set should be used to populate the same set of templates.
