html, css, php editor for dynamics website

hello
i've started to study html then will go through css then php and mysql
please i'd like to ask for your advise for which editor i should stick to to facilitate my learning way
the point is that i'd like to start the right way and stick to it
i read that not every editor is good because it may create some garbage code and some others really facilitate the learning curve
please advise

    • You can't go wrong with Notepad++ if you want something simple, or Netbeans if you want something a little more full-featured. Both are great editors... just depends on how you like to work. If you want something with every feature under the sun, however, then you might want to check out Eclipse (I personally hate it, but some people love it).

      I normally use Netbeans for larger projects that contain lots of pages / files, and Notepad++ for smaller projects / quick edits.

      And you'll probably want to install XAMPP or WAMP as well so that you can run PHP/MySQL from your local machine.

    Actually I do not have any special preferences at all.
    My point is to use something that help me to figure out the wrong in the code I write and help me to correct it as possible.
    Also something that may include some built-in things that may help to be used in the coding like insert function ...etc.
    Honestly all I know so far is a little bit of HTML and looking forward to finish my website.
    Please if my requests looks not logic or irrelevant, please accept my apologize as I am trying to figure out what is going on with web development.

    • If you make any syntax or run-time errors, Netbeans will instantly mark the line where the error is. I think there may be plugins for Notepad++ that alert you to syntax errors, but not run-time errors.

      Also, there's a great debugging plugin called Xdebug. Although it's *usable* with Notepad++, it works much better with Netbeans, in my opinion.

      Netbeans has a pretty cool "code completion" feature (optional) where if you type a letter, a popup will appear listing all of the keywords that begin with that letter, along with the description of what it does, etc. Then you just click whichever one you want to insert it into your code.

      Eclipse has this functionality too, I believe. Not sure if there are any plugins for Notepad++ that do this.

    • There is a PHP plugin for it somewhere... can't remember where though.

      Honestly though, Eclipse is kind of a pain to install and get to work correctly. You'll experience a lot less grief if you use Notepad++ or Netbeans, especially if you're just starting out. Trust me on that one!

      As per your other question, all of the editors support HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, etc.

    • You would be surprised how many programmers out there for some reason do not make use of SWITCH and instead have these huge ugly if / else blocks.

      For code editing I like PSPAD , It works well and its the first syntax highlighter I came across when I started coding in PHP so I got used to it.
  • You can use dreamweaver as an editor for your html and css need its good for dynamic pages like php too.

      Go with dreamweaver cs6 dont use simple text editors like notepad++ if your going to get into MySQL and PHP. Your goign to need a more dynamic software and simplest is Dreamweaver.


      Dont listen to anyone else, just go with dreamweaver cs6.
  • Better you can try with Macromedia Dreamweaver. This should be help you to get train well in HTML, CSS, PHP also.
  • PHPstorm is so far the best in my opinion, Netbeans if you are not willing to spend money,
  • working with Windows my preference is definitely phase5 but Notepad is also a good solution.

  • Dreamweaver is an overpriced toy. Do they still have drag-drop features? If you are dragging/dropping to create web applications - you don't know what you're doing. Hand code, use templates, use code generators, understand the code.

    If you want a full-featured IDE, then use something *much* more mature like from Jetbrains, Eclipse, or Netbeans. I just don't understand why somebody would pay $400 for the inferior Dreamweaver CS6 when they could get a far superior product like Eclipse for free.

    next is APTANA studio ,
    I am getting better performance from them ,you may also.
  • My preference is is Notepad++ but at time I do use Adobe Dreamweaver for corrections and further investigation on my code.
    I just use the standard programs with no extra plugins.
  • I am using notepad++ or Dreamweaver for PHP script. as per my view, it is the best editor for HTML, CSS and PHP.
  • Notepad++ is a great text editor for me. Notepad++ being a lightweight text editor will help you to focus more on your coding, cause you don't have to scratch your head waiting until it loads and it has more plug-ins that helps you in developing your project.
