Responsive theme vs. plug in?

What, if any, significant performance differences exist between a Wordpress responsive designed theme and a Wordpress theme with a plug in to make a website work on most all browsers and devices? Especially mobile devices?

It is for a Town promotions site and mobile use is a key issue.

Thank you.

  • From what I have found. A plugin to make your site mobile loads it's own theme from the plugins folder. Look at wp-touch for an example. There are a few settings you can do but it doesn't look like your theme at all. You could buy the pro and get more things.

A response theme uses the stylesheet to determine where items line up. It can even go as far as to hide elements on a page. This keeps the same look and style of your website but the position of some elements are changed so you don't have to scroll horizontally.

    • Thank you for the reply. I figured there had to be some difference and that is a big deal in this case. Dan
