Password Trouble - Help!

I need help. Not a programming question, but could use some direction! I recently inherited a Dell XPS 400 with Windows 7 and an Apple iMac. Both are have paswords. No clue what they are. Any thoughts on this. I can always reformat etc., but hoping not to do that.

Try using ophcrack if possible to find out the password for windows computer or else ask the person from whom you have inherited

Thanks! I will try that. Sadly, the 2nd part isn't possible.

Why not just wipe the HD and install a fresh OS?
