Wordpress, 301's, & MaxCDN

I'm setting up a website using Wordpress and MaxCDN. I've read in a few places that I need to set up a 301 redirect in my .htaccess file for the non-www to redirect to www to speed things up and to have better link juice.

I understand Wordpress does this automatically for users when typing the domain name but I've read that it still needs to be done in the .htaccess file for other services and SEO.

Is this step appropriate? is it necessary? will it break MaxCDN?

I suggest you should have one but i don't know weather it would break Maxcdn or not just give it a try after taking backups

I've contacted MaxCDN and Hostgator on the issue. They both suggest that I display domain.com and NON www domain.com because the www. is actually a sub-domain of domain.com

For SEO reasons you want the link juice going to the actual domain.com and not the sub-domain of www.

I'm sticking with the actual domain.com
