Template installation help...or what in the heck am I doing wrong?

Hi guys/gals. Usually I just use wordpress for my websites but I wanted try out a few review sites and I bought a template and after I uploaded the template using my file manager in hostgator into my root file I got this after I edited the index file (to customize the site and replace hoplinks) instead of the site showing up everytime I type in the website address:

Index of / Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at armtribaltattoo.com Port 80

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? The site had wordpress on it previously but I used Fantastico to uninstall it before uploading my template.

  • Assuming you uploaded everything properly, I'd suggest starting over. Empty everything out, then upload only the index file. If that displays, upload the rest of your files.

    It sounds like you are missing the index.html or index.php file (one or the other, depending upon the language your template is using).

    If your template is entirely HTML you should be able to run it from a local folder on your computer. If this is the case you may want to check it out locally before uploading it to your server.
