I want to learn to create sites and am thinking about Artisteer, am curious if anyone here is using it and if it is as easy as it looks. Keep in mind that I am a computer moron and can point and click but know nothing about building sites.

  • Has to be someone....if not, what are you using to design the wordpres themes ?

  • You can download an unrestricted trial version and try it out.
  • Artisteer is an excellent tool for creating *themes* for sites based on WP, Joomla, drupal, etc, but it's not going to build the entire site for you. You'll still need to learn to use whichever blog engine/cms effectively for it to be of any use to you. However, Artisteer itself is well worth the money if you're going to be building a number of blogs/sites yourself.

And yes, it is as easy as it looks.
  • I never use Artisteer but I create it manually using PHP code.
From my experience using those tools to create themes, Yes... It's easy but you have very limited options. If you want full control of the themes, you must learn it.

    • I am sorry to say that I am not smart enough to learn all that.....fairly computer stupid. I am looking for the easiest way tp get started and at least I could make some unique sites via this tool that might stand out from other themes.

  • Enterpryzman,

Thats cool man, like I said I didn't want to be a negative Nancy.

So, in my opinion rather than using artisteer I would try to learn what you need to know about web progamming. If you spend a little more time up front educating yourself in markup and web programming you will save a lot of time and frustration from the poor quality code WYSIWYG development enviroments generate.

To start your journey I would learn some simple concepts over at W3Schools Online Web Tutorials. Work your way through the html and css tutorials. They are pretty simple and you will learn quite a bit. After you have those basics of markup down pick up php for dummies (or something better) and read it through. With a basic understanding html, css & php you will be more than ready to do any WP programming that you could want to do.

Wordpress has great documetation and a large community for support. If you find a theme that you like you will be able to modify it easily with the help of others and a little bit of knowledge on your end.

    Good luck,

    Adam
