Need some help on a couple of things...

A couple of months ago I commissioned a programmer to create a VPS for me for emails. However, I have been unable to communicate with the programmer over the last 3 weeks - not sure what happened.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone can tell me what I need to do, I am not good with the technical side of things.

1. I have multiple domains registered with name.com, my programmer told me to use Cloud Flare, so now I have all of them there. What is Cloud Flare, and is it needed? (I'm not paying anything for it). Is it hosting?

2. I have a VPS host that I initially got to send out e-mails, I will not be doing this any longer (sending out bulk emails). I logged in to realize that I currently do not have any of my domains on my VPS. If they aren't there, where are they being hosted? Do I need the VPS, should I host my domains on the VPS, or get something else. I'm currently paying 14.99 for it. My domains are just the domains - they don't have anything on them yet.

3. If I want to put up simple WP sites on my domains, how do I go about doing this?

I apologize for these 'noob' questions, but I am really lost. Looking for someone who can give me some answers because I cannot figure it out on my own.

I thank you very much in advanced.

    Sorry to hear about this.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone can tell me what I need to do, I am not good with the technical side of things.

CloudFlare is a CDN (content delivery network). they have some security apps and other features that can help speed up a website by caching content. If your website is at point A & your viewer is at point C the traffic would go from point A to C. With CloudFlare, they would have a datacenter at point B, which would help speed up the time it takes to load certain items since it only goes from point B to C vs A to C. Hope that makes sense. The basic free account should be sufficient.

$14 is extremely cheap for a VPS, at least a quality one. I assume that is does not have a control panel such as cPanel on it. If you do not need root access or the isolation, I would recommend downsizing to a shared or reseller hosting account.

For this, I recommended downsizing to a shared or reseller account. The only reason a VPS is needed is for root access or isolation/running special scripts that cannot run in a normal shared hosting environment. Some will say a VPS is more powerful however, this is simply not the case all the time.

No problem. Hopefully what I've said will help point you in the right direction. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

    Hi,

Getting a VPS for bulk emails is never a good idea.. you should be using services like sendgrid or amazon SES for that.

    1. Cloudflare is nothing more then a extra layer to speed up and protect your site. It is not hosting and yes its free. Just google it for more info

    2. Domains are registered with a registrar never with a 'vps' VPS means Virtual Private Server. It is possible that your domains are registered with the company where you have your VPS or perhaps with a specific registrar like namecheap.com you should know this. That is your job it is part of your administration and pretty vital. I would go and search your emails. You bought the domains right? You should have something on them

    3. Based on your questions I believe there is a lot to learn before you can start doing that. No it is not difficult but like I said based on your questions there is a lot to learn. Managing a VPS is for more advanced users not for noobs. You would be better of with either Managed VPS or cloud hosting (or even shared hosting in your case with small websites - also a lot cheaper).

I would suggest searching for a (online) WordPress course (I actually run one but don't want to self promote so if you are interested in that you can PM me)
