Wordpress Password keeps resetting???

Hey Everyone,

I just installed a wordpress amazon site that I purchased from someone and I didn't have the admin password.

So, I changed the password from phpMyAdmin and when I go and try to log in the password resets. And every time it resets, it resets with a different password.

Can someone help with any advice as to what might be causing this.

Thanks,
Chuck

Could be a plugin, security feature. Try looking in the plugin folder and see what you find there.

Don't use phpMyAdmin to try to do something when you don't understand what you are dealing with.

The password in the DB is encrypted. The only thing you can do relating to the password is changing the email that wordpress uses to reset it.

Use the reset function built in to wordpress and use a strong password.

Go Here to find a way to create an easy to remember password that is uncrackable on the web.

While I second the idea that you shouldn't use phpMyAdmin to do something you don't understand, it's perfectly fine to reset a WP password there.

The catch is that you have to use the MD5 function when doing it. When you're editing the password field, over to the left of the input box is a dropdown menu of various functions you can apply to the plain text you type into the input field. Type in your password, then choose MD5 or SHA1 from the dropdown list. WP can deal with either.

THEN, after you're able to access the Dashboard, go to your profile and change the password using that page. That will ensure that the stored password is encrypted even more strongly than just MD5.
