Mac Virus?

Hi Program Warriors,

Not sure if this is the best forum category for this question but hopefully a programmer might know;

I use Mas OSX 6.8

Problem: On Firefox, a pop up advert slides up from the bottom of screen on random pages I go to on the net. And, some times a page will redirect to an advert or somewhere else like an answers page.

Is this a virus? or has some kind of plugin installed itself or something else?

I did use Clamxav on my whole computers files but no recent virus was detected.

How can I get rid of this?

Thanks

  • I seriously doubt it's your Mac.
    It sounds like a plugin/addon you have in Firefox that was auto installed, or something you installed that has superfine print about sponsors.
    I would dig into the plugins and addons and see what's there.

    • Thanks.. that was it.. was the firefox seo quake plugin.. I removed it and problem gone... shame coz I like that seo quake toolbar.

  • Glad you found it, but it's odd, I've used that addon many times without issue.

    • Me too.. I've had it for ages.. but it seems to have either been hacked or they have added those redirects and ads on purpose, coz taking it away definitely solved the problem.
