Main advantage of PHP is, that it is installed on nearly every hosting you can imagine.
This is main power of php next to facts, that learning curve is pretty short comparing to other languages.

It's simple so newbie programmers prefer it. It also allows web hosting providers to oversell like crazy, something that's not very easy when you're providing java and other options. It's kind of a "deadly combination" of factors

In addition to a low barrier of entry, PHP is fast. When used correctly, PHP scales well as higher demands are placed on it. Comparitively, many other web-centric languages aren't as optimized for speed.

PHP is a simple, easy to learn language that's been free from the start. It has become popular in the niche of web programming for several good reasons.

    It's free.

It's easy enough for non-programmers to learn enough to get some work done.

Its performance is good enough for many uses.

It's been developed and improved over the years.

There's an abundance of tutorials, examples, and friendly forums to help people learn and use it.

It's open source, so anyone can examine exactly how it works and suggest improvements to the language; and no company could ever make it unavailable.

All of these reasons built on each other through the years, making a spiral of increasing success and popularity for the language.

It's now also available for use with the "dot-Net" environment, which provides lots of options for Windows programmers and many of those options are available in the Unix world too.

That's all just my opinion why php is so popular, although I think most php fans would agree with most of these reasons. But why not learn for yourself? You can visit PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor to read more, and to download it and start tinkering.

      Hi Allen,

It's easy, you'll just need to develop a function named "money-making-script" and name your script as "coolest-and-helpful-script-that-will-make-anyones-business-easier.php".
Then test it in your apache server. When you're done, you'll need other people to test it too
and create another function "killer-sales-letter". Open it in browser and embed your paypal form to accept payment. Another test is needed and it is testing to WSO section, if there are many people like to test it then they will click the paypal form and the output is money in your bank. Next thing is you need to find affiliates and JV partners to send your link into their list ...the more people test and run your script the more money comes into your account

      Regards,

      Ross

PHP is used by hundreds of thousands of developers on millions of websites. So it has big benefits those are:
PHP frameworks allow me to create websites more rapidly; PHP really lets the programmers get access to the core elements of the language, even to the extent of extending the language to suit their application; It has an outstanding security record

i've read from a site. these are the benefits:

Cost Factor: Being an open source language, PHP is free thus reducing not just the initial investment but also the implementation, maintenance and debugging costs involved in the development cycle.

Reliability and Performance: Linux platform is considered much more reliable(less down time) than other platforms such as Windows. Also, there are many ways by which one can increase the performance such as optimizing the scripts, the server, the SQL database etc.

Support: The open source nature of the language provides easy and cost free support thus making it highly famous amongst developers all around the globe.

Security: PHP which runs on Apache server which is much more robust and secured if compared to other languages such as ASP.NET which runs on IIS.

    --hope it helps!

I really like Tizag.com for learning PHP, refreshing on HTML, oh, and MySQL of course. It's not advanced, though, but they get the thought across quite nicely.

They were coming up a lot in my google searches for stuff, so I just bookmarked it, and went back for all my basic questions.

PHP has numerous advantages over other web scripting languages including -
    1. Designed for the Web - PHP has built-in features to handle heavily trafficked sites and to simplify common Web programming tasks.
    2. Ease of Use - Companies gain enhanced productivity of development teams and significantly reduced time-to-market of mission critical
    web applications.
    3. Open Source - Collaborative development leads to rapid technology advancement, superior code quality, a massive library of prewritten code, and comprehensive developer support and documentation. Freely available code repositories and PHP frameworks allow us to create websites more rapidly, and at reduced costs for you the end user.
    4. Constantly evolving - PHP is constantly being developed by thousands of programmers who work on the PHP code and suggest new directions for the language to go.
    5. Highly customisable, PHP really lets the programmers get access to the core elements of the language, even to the extent of extending the language to suit their application.
    6. Secure, PHP has an outstanding security record.

PHP is used by hundreds of thousands of developers on millions of websites.

I love php because you can automate any process, which is a time saving factor.
PHP also helps you in affiliate marketing and viral marketing to some extent.

PHP is a big boon to anyone who learns it

PHP is pretty much similar to JavaScript and other scripting languages.
What PHP basically allows is new ways to control the websites and makes difficult operations easy for one to do. Like JavaScript, one of PHP's primary benefits is a lack of reliance on external programs to run the code.

For all the reasons mentioned above, PHP code scripts are widely available in free and paid form.

And if you should obtain a PHP script for free or buy one, there will be many people available to help you maintain or load it if you are not a programmer. Some programmers charge for their services, but many will provide limited help or support for free.
