Making WP theme edits. Just to clarify?

I bought a theme from themeforrest.

To be able to edit it, I mean change the layout, the pics, the colours everything, I just need to use ftp to upload it to WP, and there (in my wp-admin) i can do everything I need to for the edits?

I know this is basic stuff. But this is the first time I am trying to do it myself.

Can you recommend a youtube video series or somthing similar that can help me also?

  • You need to create a child theme and then add your custom css and any replacement php files as you needs demand. Not for the faint of heart.
  • Social Buddy - WordPress & BuddyPress Theme Preview - ThemeForest

    I got this ^ theme.

I got a lot of work to do, but I will learn so much doing it.
  • There is a child theme for it already there by the looks of things.

I'll have to make sure I do a lot of back ups and have money available for a webdeveloper if things go wrong.

    • Its often better to upload the zipped version of the theme through the theme section of the Wordpress interface. That way you don't have to worry about unzipping it.
  • okay. I've unzipped on my hard drive, but I'll know for next time, just to save time.
