admin.php not working -VorteX47 HELP

Hi,

I've seen this thread somewhere but have not found a direct solution
and cannot reply a post to the thread because I'm new to the forum.

Anyway, --I'm using Hostgator and the admin.php is not working--I changed all the folders and files to "777"--I'm a newbie so it's kinda hard
to know what's going on. I appreciate the help.

Also, in my other folders, I'm using Wordpress and I'm not sure if that is complicating the problem. Although the "Acne" folder is a separate folder of the domain name.

Thanks,

Ken

  • Need more information before anyone can even begin to help you with this. What script are you trying to use with HostGator (admin.php doesn't really narrow it down much)? What error are you getting?

One tip, especially if you're getting a 500 (Internal Server Error).. on HostGator, you should not have any file or directory permissions set to 777. Because of the way their servers are configured, it's absolutely not necessary to use such "wide open" permissions under any circumstances and in most cases HostGator will not allow your scripts to run with those permissions.

    • Steven,

Thanks! What I did was to send my problem directly to Hostgator (also learned that Live Chat Support is a lot better than phone calls).
They fixed it and said some of of the "permissions" were screwed up (I'm guilty). It is running now.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

      Cheers,

  • Thanks Steven, your words have just calmed me after I spent all this afternoon uploading Butterfly Marketing 2, changing specified permissions to 777, and getting the 500 Internal Server every time I tried to install. I am on Hostgator, and was getting quite frustrated...

Having read your post, I didn't alter any of the permissions this time, but it hasn't worked again - which was the one file you have to alter permissions for please?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob

E2A: after a bit more reading on the problem, I discovered that if you set all the folders and files to 755 that the install video says to set to 777, the install works happily. It's to do with Hostgator being extra safe apparently
