Listed wrong in Google

For some reason when I type my site name in Google, another site comes up. We both are part of the same affiliate. This is causing the other site to get listed for my keywords! Have an email in to the webmaster, but he doesn't respond like he used to. Any ideas how to fix this? very frustating!

Thanks
Wayne

  • Do a backlink search and let us know if it shows the same backlinks for both sites. That could mean google thought both sites were the same and only indexed one. You might want to consider making your content more unique and changing the ip address of your site.
  • The sites an affiliate site, so i can't do anything about the content. Will do a backlink check.
  • Backlinks are the same. The thing thats funny is the site listed in the 1st position keeps changing. There all part of the same affiliate. Seems to change every couple days. Sent an email to the webmaster, and Google. Hope someone can fix this!
  • Not sure I understand you. I'm looking at my domain name when I do a Google search. There is another domain listed first. My domain is listed from #2 down. Once my domain is in the right place, my keywords will show up under my domain, not the other domain.
  • Is it the site listed in your signature? If so, for one thing, every single site is on the same server. Google can differentiate sites on the same server, but whenever those sites all have the exact same content... it's not going to give you any love. Google does not like duplicate content.

Install Google Webmaster tools, see if it gives you any further clues.

    • Yes, it is the site in my sig. I use Google webmaster tools, but can't verify the site. The webmaster rarely responds to my emails. May have to look for anyother site to promote. Really would like to fix this, as I have put a lot o work into ranking high in the SERP's.

Also had wanted to add content to the site, but not sure how to contact the webmaster.
  • when you say that he is listed for your name... are you saying you are searching for your website name with a regular search, or are you searching using "site:" and then your site name?

If the former... then he just outranks you for your website name.

If the latter, then there is likely an issue.

    • I'm searching under my site name. This morning my keyword listings were correct, so I worked on some backlinks, and they were listed under his site again! It's like I'm doing work for his benefit. My keyword phrase actually moved up to #12(but in his name). Very frustating!
  • Wayne A, good luck getting this solved...sounds to me like an issue

    • I can't see anything wrong here - it seems to me the other site is using your domain as one of his keywords and has managed to get ranked higher than you for the domain name. You can obviously try the same thing using his domain as a keyword to drive traffic to your site!

      best wishes,

      Jon.
  • My keywords are listed correctly the last couple days. Hopefully,it stays this way!
  • Good luck, hope you've resolved this for good

    • Looks like I spoke too soon. Can't find my keywords at all in Google. The site listed first is gone, replaced by another affiliate in the 3 rd spot. My page rank is back to 3(went from 3 to n/a to 0). Would rather have my serp back then my pr.

Getting ready to throw in the towel, since the webmaster never responds to emails, and I can't find any other contact info.
  • Google is a competition, check your backlinks.
  • Now its listing another affiliate! When I use the link: function his/hers links are the same. We also have the same PR( as does the last affiliate).

Is there any way I can add content w/o contacting the webmaster?( he never responds to my e-mails). Would like add a quote of the day, or a joke, or something somewhat original. Really would like to get my serp back!
