PHP: mysqli_result::$num_rows - Manual

I tried posting my own example, but the editor kept removing half the code, even though it was in a code block.

  Get the count result from mysql, not php.
  
  If your normal query is "SELECT id FROM table",
  change it to "SELECT count(id) as a, id FROM table"
  
  Then simply get the value of a.
