Need advice. My webhost has been shutting my sites down for a half hour at a time everyday. They gave me a "help page" to go through and troubleshoot why my sites are taking too much CPU time. I wouldn't know how to perform all of the technical stuff they are suggesting with databases.

The sites are on Wordpress platform. I also have a lot of scripts running that bring in job feeds.

I am considering switching hosts, moving all my content off of Wordpress and onto a different platform, and starting over. I just don't want to lose all of the work I have done. I have a lot of backlinks pointing to hundreds of pages.

Any advice? Thanks.

Hey by any chance is this bluehost? I have a client with them and I noticed that 'CPU Throttling' had been active. I wasn't sure if this just cut back resources or actually took the website offline?

No it is Hostmonster. They never notified me of a problem and this has been going on for days. I am going to follow their troubleshooting advice but at the same time I am going to consider how to move my site and/or get off Wordpress. I was hacked last year and Google penalized me. Hostmoster was zero help then too.

Hostmonster, like Bluehost is one of the sites that was purchased some time back and is becoming unreliable and just plain lousy.

I came up with a short list of shared hosting providers that seem reasonable and don't get many bad reviews:
        Glowhost
        Frog Host - Web Hosting
        Site5 Web Hosting
        Siteground
        JaguarPC
        Arvixe
        PacificHost

I moved several of my sites to Glowhost, because they seemed to be the best deal for me. They handled the relocation of more than 25 sites without a glitch, no downtime.

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and most are hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

9 times out of 10, there's no problem with your site, the server is most likely so jammed packed that there's literally no room for any type of resource spike. The best advice would be to find another web host that strictly limits their servers.

There is a slight chance that your "job feeds" script could be the problem. I'd recommend talking to a few potential new hosts to see about testing out an account and perhaps they could give some insight on what you actually need.

Moving the sites wouldn't affect any links or anything, just make sure the host that's migrating your account knows what they're doing.

"Hostmonster" is really just EIG, same as the imfamous Hostgator. There is no "Hostmonster". EIG owns 50+ brands. So be careful, otherwise you could "switch" to another one.

Just get a better host. There's quite a few non-EIG hosts to choose from.

    Also don't use
    - Godaddy
    - Yahoo
    - 1&1
    - Dreamhost
