Adding a domain to Hostgator C-Panel

Hi,
Can anyone help me.

I'm new to Hostgator and their c-panel.

I'm trying to add on my domain I brought from namecheap to Hostgator. I've changed the DNS settings and everything.

I've followed the procedure to the letter about using the Addon domain thingy, only to get the following error message:

There was a problem creating the addondomain.

Sorry, you are not allowed to add any more than (0) addon domains! The domain below was not setup!

WTF!??!!!??

I cannot for the life of me see what I have done wrong.

Can anyone advise me how to solve this problem?

Edit: Ah! DNS propagation.

I take it that I have to wait before I can do this. Is this correct?

    Hostgator have a series of videos there is one all about Addon domains as well as another on subdomains.
    Perhaps that can help.

  • No. You should be able to create the domain, regardless of your DNS settings and whether or not any changes to those settings have propagated over the Internet. You may not be able to type the URL into the address field of a browser and go to it, but you should be able to create it. I'd contact HG tech support.
  • Yes Aronya is correct, propagation is not the issue here.

    Does your plan also have Web Host Manager (WHM)? You can use that to add a new account, which is the domain you want to use. You then take the DNS settings from WHM and apply them to your domain through your registrars control panel.

  • Ok guys, it seems the problem was verification was needed and my account was suspended until I assured them I wasn't Bin Laden or whoever!

  • anyone have any really good videos on hostgator and wordpress? would appreciate the help . forinstance, hg has a contact manager form and service , how does that work ? compared to eweber? how do I download a theme > I loaded some themes the other day with new domainnames, and tried to install them. evn though it hadnt propogated yet,(what does that mean anyway ? someone should write a ebook in everyday language..forget all the techno talk terms) ...anyway , the domains ended up as sub domains under previously installed domains. would love for someone to have a look and help ...be glad to pay .

  • Does your plan allow you to add addon domains? The cheapest plan may not allow you to add addon domains? Otherwise you are just wasting your time.

    Most efficient way is to create a ticket and they tend to reply pretty quickly.
