I am not able to modify files thru dreamweaver and got the following error.

An FTP error occurred - cannot put Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.

How to fix this?

Are you using the correct login and are in the correct directory?

  Yes I am using correct ftp info

check that with your sever provider
maybe your domain expired and you need to connect with your IP address
