I want to put email capture in wordpress, please anyone help?

I have a blog that I would like to put email captures both in the sidebar (as a subscription optin) - so think i need some sort of widget? Also I would like to put an email capture on some of the pages, so i am guessing some sort of plug-in.

Using Wordpress, as per title.

All I want is a capture that will send an email to my email address, I already have an auto responder set up at the email address.

I am hoping for a free, simple and flexible option. Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Alan

I tried that before but I had a hard time finding a solution especially if you don't have an autoresponder service. Your email autores just won't cut it.

However, if I may offer an advice...invest in an autoresponder. That's one of the best investments I made just ask anyone here in the forum and they'll probably tell you the same.

If you're trying not to break the bank, you can do the following:

    1. Try getresponse's free 30 day trial (no cc required). And then you can download the GR plugin and you can now have a sidebar widget that gets emails.

    2. You can also avail aweber's $1 trial.

    3. Or get mailchimp's free service (since I don't think you're using sequenced email yet) so you can take advantage of their free plan.

    4. I hope it doesn't come to this but you can also try listwire's free plan.

    Hope that helps.

As far as adding the form to your blog, I have two words for you.

      Child Theme

Create a child theme and learn to insert the html in the theme templates. That way, you aren't dependent on widgets or plugins. Fewer security leaks, fewer server calls, faster pages.

Creating a child theme is really something I should spend time learning. I have heard this quite a few times before, many thanks for your reply

    Alan,

Free and flexible option: MailPoet, previously known as Wysija.

It's a WYSWYG (What You See is What You Get) plugin for Wordpress. It allows you to build an email list right inside Wordpress and send them your newsletters.

There's a free and paid option, so give it a shot. It has worked for me in several sites I own.

Let me know how things go for you.

    Kind Regards,

    - Juan

If you already have an autoresponder then you simply have to create a form in your autoresponder and copy the html code (the autoresponder should have a tutorial on how to do this). Then create a text widget in your side bar and paste the html there. There are videos on youtube showing how to do this like this one . It is not hard at all.
