[HELP] Can't Install phpbb3 using Fantastico

I'm using Fantastico to try to install phpbb3 on a new website.

The problem that I am having is that I want my forum directory installed inside another directory.

(I want to install the forum in membersarea/forum/)

the problem lies when I tell Fantastico to Install In Directory /membersarea/forum membersarea/forum or /membersarea/forum/ I tried all 3 combinations and it doesn't want to install the forum in the /membersarea/forum directory.

If I try to install the phpbb3 forum in a directory by itself, it will work fine, but when I try to install it in a directory inside a directory, it's giving me the following error

"The installation can not be completed:- No valid directory name provided."

Someone please advise - thanks

  • The best would be to ask in phpbb support forum. And don't install with fantastico....
  • Hi Craig

Had a thought - did you create the target directory before trying to install the forum? Fantastico won't install to a subdirectory that already exists - it neds to create the directory itself.

Not sure if that's of any help to you but I thought I'd offer it.

  • Absolutely 100% wrong!!

This quote directly from the Fantastico screen for installing PHPBB3:

Again, Fantastico requires that you do not create the directory beforehand, it needs to do it itself as part of building up its internal installation file.

  • It is also very easy to install phpbb manually. Why do not you try that?
  • Yeah - I ended up installing phpbb3 manually because I couldn't find out why Fantastico didn't want to work.

Thanks for the advice anyways guys.

    • Sometimes it may be the problem with fantistico! Maybe you can check with your hosting support! ANyway.. you already installed it manually!
  • Did this get sorted out for you yet? curious before I go digger to find a solution for you!
  • Fantastico is great, but sometimes gives errors while installing stuffs... better upload forums, wordpress etc through FTP and install them manually.
