Who knew? I can just get my competitors banned from google by hiring someone from India to build some links to their site.

Sorry but 3k backlinks is not going to get you banned from google. Were you completely deindexed? or did the links just not do you any good?

There is a very large difference between the two. Google can and does discount any and all links that is sees as unworthy. This means that just because you bought 3k links does not mean that google liked those particular links and will count them for anything. Quality is better everyday and twice on Sunday.

How old was your site? How many links did it have before that?

Well, If it was a brand new site, and if the links you got were all very low quality or worse yet from highly suspect sites (in google's eyes) then maybe you could have got yourself sandboxed; all tough it is also likely that Google just put you on a very low page. I would again ask questions from above; how old was your site, how many links did you have before this, and most importantly where were those links from?

I have 4 websites currently sitting b/w 5-9th position for my main keywords. All websites are 5+ years old with over 2000+ backlinks. In my opinion IP/domain diversity is hurting my rankings. My backlinks have pretty bad IP diversity.

Content is not an issue, as unique content is added on daily basis.

Well, i doubt on building so many links in short period of time. Is your site old enough ? Also building 100 links a day can be hard for a individual however possible with a good team.
