I am new to guest blog posts, after the two weeks it comes off the first page but it stays on blog and the links are still active correct? Thanks and sorry for newb question

Yes. That is generally correct. The speed depends on how often they post to the blog and how many posts stay on the home page. If you want something to stick for good you usually have to pay month to month.
