Hey all,

I'm an IM, not some SEO/SEM expert, so I won't claim to know much about it. I'm currently building a site for finance niche (yes, I know, competition is stiff), where I have a really good domain (starts with Bank) and a lot of marketing knowledge.

Ok, to be short; I'll be visiting this SEO forum quite a bit in the near future, hopefully to get in touch with some SEO gurus here. But for now, here's the list of ways to do some SEM, mainly for the backlinking. Please share your views and other ways to do it, if you have the time, ok? Thanks!

a) Automated submission to directories + SEs
b) Give testimonials to feedback sites
c) Freebies distribution with footer copyright link
d) Fiverr gigs (blog mentions, .edu domains submissions, etc.)
e) Submit site to website feedback sites
f) Submit site to blog aggregators
g) Scoop.it suggestion of my site.

etc... Any thoughts or additions to this list?

Ahh, the wonderful world of pointless spamming
  • You don`t need to submit your site to SE, it is pointless.
Freebies is a definitely the way to go, but keep remember to take in exchange their emails (:, register account on aweber or getresponse. Email marketing is very effective.
Build your own blogs network based on web 2.0 and fill them up with unique quality content, the traffic from SE will comes within a weeks without any backlinking, of course boosting them with backlinks will increase the traffic a lot.
  • Corporate grade hosting - does all the work for us!
  • Don't do this. There is no need to submit a website to search engines. Also, directories can be great, but I would worry about the quality of the directories if someone is just doing automated submissions for you. You want highly moderated directories. Paid directories are great too.

Not sure what you mean here.

Site-wide footer links are awful. Don't do this.

If someone told you that links on .edu domains carry some magical ranking power, they are an idiot. Stop listening to anything they have to say. I would stay away from Fiverr for anything SEO related.

    Why?

Not going to do a whole lot for your SEO, but probably the least bad idea so far.

Not a horrible idea, but you are probably better off reaching out to websites directly yourself.

Yep, I think I'm better off staying away from Fiverr; my experience there was always awful.
Some automated services are mostly considered as spam, so I'll just do it manually and selective.
      Thanks guys
  • a. Automated directory submission will only generate useless links. Don't do that. If you need directory links, submit only to DMOZ and the top paid directories.
    b. This might work, but don't expect strong backlinks.
    c. Not bad.
    d. You can buy the high PR blog post gigs on Fiverr e.g. The "I will post your article on my PR 5 blog" type gigs. Avoid the edu submission gigs.
    e. Again, not bad, but don't expect strong backlinks.
    f. Same as (e)
    g. Same as (e)

You can create infographics, case studies, or any piece of useful and well-researched content and notify authority websites in your niche about it so they can link to it if they consider it beneficial to their audience (this is known as link outreach).

Lol, just lol. PM the link to that article when you are done.

  • Hi, I personally am not in the finance niche, but have many pages ranked in page 1 of google, if your aim is seo, first try to decide which search algorithm you want to rank for, local, map, or general ones.
