Penguin Hit Yesterday?

We were warned last week that the new Penguin "refresh" was coming out sometime this week if everything is on schedule. I put refresh in quotes because it is actually a rewrite of the algo that's reportedly taken a year for them to launch.

Anyone seeing anything?

I think it might be here already, this niche is heavily spammed:

Cumulative movement for one of my main local sites

Both results from yesterday. May or may not have to do with penguin, but is highly suspect considering both of this happened on the same day.

If a Penguin update was released yesterday, they would have announced it. Are you tracking the positions of sites in a particular niche? That's something I'm planning to start doing soon because of the insight it gives into unexplained changes that happen in the SERPs.

Actually, there have been several times that Penguin updates rolled out and Google confirmed it a few days later.

The normal chatter is not out there though when Penguin update hits.

Not sure if it rolled out yet, although there are talks that it could be panda still rolling out or penguin. We should know more in a few days.

Thanks for the stats. You are doing something right!

I don't think it's the Penguin. It is most likely the Panda 4.1 as it is still being rolling out

More than likely Google testing penguin, they always test subsegments to determine the overall effect before rolling it out entirely.

I believe they did this back in early September as well for a bit which caused the changes in rankings for many niches temporarily.

Better be ready, Penguins gonna be ugly.

Yep - you're probably right. I've been bouncing a bit so they're definitely split-testing some stuff.

Hopefully it won't be as ugly as the initial roll-out but you never know

Yes, I think it's coming very soon. My guess would be in the next week or two at the latest. Penguin will be rolled out before November, mark my words.
