My site seems to be deindexed from Google...what do I do?

One of my old sites is not showing up for any keywords.

It shows up if I search "site:domainname.com" or if I search for a specific quote from the page, but otherwise it doesn't show up at all.

How do I figure out what happened? And what are my options? Does putting the site on a different domain work?

Check your Google webmaster tools, you might have received some notification regarding this problem. This generally happens when selected pages of your website has been deindexed due poor and thin content.

When did you lose rankings? This helps us help you figure out what could cause it.

My guess is Panda and/or a manual penalty. Check webmaster tools for messages.

It maybe a lot easier to move on and purchase a new domain name

So does putting the site on a new domain work or not?

I don't have the site on Webmaster Tools from other people's (possibly paranoid?) advice. Should I?

Thank you for the advice everyone.

Might sound a bit flippant, but man come on. New domain?
Where do you people get this penalty-jazz-new-domain-nonsense?

Let's see. I do searches and get 5,000,000 websites, but see only the top
    10. I could care less about the rest. Not that there are 5 mil sites "competing,
but just think, 4,999,990 sites are not ranking....for the terms I just searched for
at this given moment, out of websites that might rank...

They must be suffering some penalty.

Millions of websites are in your same predicament. Thing is, most neither care
nor actually know that they are, "not ranking."
