I still get some traffic from Google but its not the same. Apparently the major update they had pretty much damaged alot of quality traffic for many online internet marketers and businesses. Google is the only Search Engine that people care for so they can do whatever they want and don't care how it effects the people that uses them. I am spending more on Google to get good traffic...

  • Lets be honest. None of the updates in the last two years has been about anything that Google didn't warn about FOR YEARS. It was well known Google would be looking more and more at links in content on high authority pages. Marketers determined that they wanted link spam tools instead blasting links all over people's property in blog comments, profiles, angela backlinks, etc and they kept saying "well it still works so I am doing it".

    If state troopers keep telling you 90 Mph is not an acceptable speed you can hardly cry that they ruined your life when they finally pull you over.

    • Really I found a way to work through it. Its just more expensive so I am not really whining about it. Just getting others thoughts on the subject. But I know they did say the updates were going to happen. I just rather get my traffic from something reliable and not something that can change ever so often.. That's my take on Google.

    • I agree that Google still holds all the cards. And yes, for a lot of businesses, Google is the big fish. For some its beneficial and for others its not. For me its not beneficial. But I have partners who are doing great with Google. Does that mean Google is bad? Because they do a lot of updates? They have silently updated their system for so long. This is why things change ever so often. Companies change with time.

      I just stated a fact of what a lot of people faced with Google which was during the updates. I felt some changes and I simply expressed it in my post. Some will agree and some wont. That is pretty much why I asked for everyones thoughts on Google to see if anyone else felt the same way or had their personal stories of working with Google. Whether Google said they were going to do major changes a long time ago or not. That is besides the point. My post was really letting others know about how the changes effected me. I have a side website that I did the same things for and its pretty stable after the update. Its just not a good niche for making money so its not really beneficial to me. I just didn't understand what would make my main website go down in rankings after I hand made every backlink and social posts, etc. But everyone feels different about Google and their services. However I am in no way upset or whining about the changes as I have other sources of traffic and my revenue is still pretty stable. But you were right, they did tell us about updates long before.

    • Google's update is a mixed thing for some people. I hand made all my backlinks but received a decline in traffic. However, I am using some other methods to get my rankings back up so I am ok. I just see so much posts of other people who says Google is a pain and I thought. Why not make a thread on it to get everyone's opinion on it.

    Many years ago when I was young and dumb I tried so hard to make Google fall in love with me.I put on my sexiest wife beater and skin tight jeans. The Big G lusted for me and had its way with me for a little while.

    But then inexplicably almost overnight Mr. G got tired of me and he discarded me like a piece of trash . Leaving me naked out in the cold.

    Thats when I vowed to never try to be seduced by Mr. G again and went on to greener pastures

      Prostituting and attracting a long term relationship are two different (even opposing) skill sets.
  • There is lots of issues when it comes to marketing on Google so many tied policies.
  • There of people that got hammer by Google but because most
    of them have been abuse the search engines It's not a great idea
    to still depend on Google traffic where there are other good free and paid
    services that can bring in the traffic your website needed if constructed
    well. After the updates I really don't depend on Google for traffic the only thing I do is to
    ensure my websites are SEO optimized just for search purposes but
    I don't depend on them for traffic.

    • All of my SEO traffic were from Forums, Article Marketing, Blogs, and pure unique content. I write all of my work. So I don't know why such a change happened to me. I expected it to happen to people who were making bad quality backlinks. But Its not a huge drop. I have most of my traffic coming from other methods which are all White Hat so im good.
  • After every updates, there will always websites ranking higher and lower, even some of them disappear, what we should do is finding which sites has good authority to stand on it and profit from the change.

  • Ten years ago, Google was over 50% of my traffic. Today it's less than 1% and that's by design. Yet, my traffic continues to go up. Google updates are virtually meaningless to me now. Every new business venture I start starts off with a promotional plan that doesn't include Google.

    Google is investing a ton of money on research & development to get itself into other markets because even they know that the search engine model is not going to be around forever, at least not in it's current state.

    • Thank You, Well said! I agree 100%. Because at the end of the day. People are outsourcing for different ways to gain traffic. Google does so much research and knows this. This is the MAIN REASON why Google has purchased publicly and silently, other traffic businesses. So sometimes when you think you ran away from them, you really didn't. It's like when a customer says they will never shop at Walmart or support it again yet they shop at Sams club....

    • Its the Internet and technology. Nothing ever stays in its current state but to translate that to search engine models are going away? Sorry doesn't compute.

      The more data and entertainment and info online the more our need for engines to search through all of it will increase. Search engines are with us forever and that can't be said for any of the other top five destinations on the web now.
  • Google isn't a big source of traffic for me and I wasn't even aware there was an update.

    I just checked my old Adsense and Amazon sites that have been plugging along making me a couple hundred dollars a year since I put them up and they're not doing so hot traffic-wise, but they're such an insignificant part of my income that it isn't going to hurt me. I haven't touched them in years and the only reason I haven't let them expire is because they've been making enough money to cover the cost of hosting and domain renewals for all of my sites with a little left over.

    I stopped relying on Google and moved over to paid traffic a long time ago. Sure, it costs money, but I spend a lot less time worrying about what Google is up to these days.

    • Thank You! Wonderful post. I am making most of my money from other avenues and not Google. So the updates they did are not a huge effect in my business. Yeah, its annoying but I am thankful I didn't leave my business in Google's arms alone. Otherwise I would have faced the consequences.
  • My main source from some of my websites is social media i am getting a ton of traffic daily from pintrest, twitter and facebook

    ive never written google off because you can get an atronomical amount of traffic if you get on the first page

    nowadays i just concentrate on paid adverising and social media because worrying what google is doing is just a major hassle, and its always most always the quality websites that get kicked in the bollocks by google, how long have we had to "change this! "do that" " dont do this" and so on to accomadate googles guidelines, they are not the be all and end all and their are many ways to source traffic for your site/product besides google

    at the end of the day, its google's way or the higway no matter what we do, i get quite alot of traffic from bing for doing very little, so their is life beyond the big g but never desert them or disreguard them

      There was a time when the words 'big update' rose everyone's pulse rate to near myocardial infarction (including myself). Now it's just.. update? What update?
    • Yeah,it wasn't much for an update. Considering the buzz it was generating on many SEO blogs, one would think that it would be really PROFOUND. It's very incremental and if people were publishing the way they should have been publishing, there's really nothing new to report except maybe for some enhanced rankings here and there.

  • Organic generates 24% of traffic as a channel, Google have 2,000% efficiency, it's a compounding effect - that compounding is now going above 200% which is where most small business methods start to fail - corporates run at 1,000%. Everyone here has a turn when we say there are ways to slow the effect - we neutralise it but that just confuses everyone. So Google is one of the channels, but a very important one.

    That all it is, getting hits to convert into money, via targeting social websites and pointing to your website .

    The truth is the hard work has been done for everybody, Internet marketers can earn millions with already made social websites that are high in Google database, you can abuse this and start using socal media websites and work out what ppl are doing to get traffic in your niche, and point that traffic to your website and convert that traffic into cash.

    unfortunately the good old days getting Google to get you high in the Google database is all over , it can be done but takes such a long time and can be pulled down anytime with all the Google changes just scares the hell out of me and other ppl.

    Google wants grate content and that content to be 99% perfect and truthful, and in the future proven fact from the person who writes it.

    eventually anything added to a web page added to goggle will want full authentication on whats added to that page.

    seo optimization in the end will be a rich mans/woman world unfortunately where it all paid for in the end, Internet marketers have got to relies that the only way forward is to use the already made social websites and new trends what come out daily/weekly/monthly/yearly there is no easy slap a web page up and earn money fast any more.

  • Google has bought out a lot of competition. My take on it is that the competition is in all a slap for Google. They don't want anyone else to take their spot light so if someone comes with a bad ass model that can beat them, they will buy them out. I don't know why so much people are surprised by this.. Its actually a smart option to buy out your competitors...

  • With the latest Google updates, a lot of websites which are spammy and dont focus on content marketing activities are being wiped off in terms of traffic as well as ranking. So, the ultimate goal of Google is to focus more on content marketing activities..
  • Google is still the main source of traffic for almost everyone! Tho, that 8% traffic we can get from Y/B are valuable.
