Hi there,

I notice that there is a lot of talk about "low competition keywords". I'm just wondering what people consider to be low competition.

Are you talking about less than 5,000 results for "keyword".

Interested in peoples opinion.

Cheers

    Hi !

Just go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Make a search - and then look at the results, that come up.
There is a row named "Advertiser Competition". Depending on the shaded bar there is more or less competition. Just hover over the shaded bar with your mouse to see how big/low the competition is.

So this one will help in measuring the key word. If so than we will be able to select the right keyword to be use it and can judge it how well it is working. So its good.

i never bother with the number of search results

if you can beat the top 10, you can beat the rest

I run a phrase match on the keyword. If it's 150,000 or less I'll usually consider it a low-competition keyword. Under 100,000 is even better.

I then analyze the top ten to determine if I can take one of the top 3 spots.

If the traffic for the keyword is high enough, I'll work it if I feel I can rank in the top 3. If it's not significant, I won't build the site unless I have a descent chance of taking the #1 spot.

What works for me is to use the Google search operator ->intitle:"keyword phrase"

If I see 1,000 or less results, then I check the strength of the competitionon Google's page 1. If it's weak enough, then I know I have a good keyword phrase to work with.

Always make use of the power of Google:

Use Google Adword Tool to get an overview of the competition & number of searches for the keyword(s). This tool even gives you any relevant keyword terms and lets you see it(if you have not used it which I doubt! heh.)

Then, open up a new window and go into Google itself. Throw in your keywords and record down the number of sites. Then, put quotes in your keyword: for example, "golf swing books" and record down the sites. After that, you can even use these three functions:

allintitle - How many sites with the exact keyword for their site title
allinurl - How many sites that has the keywords in their url
allinanchor - How many sites that has the keywords in their anchor text.

Record down the number of sites for each.

Compare the number of searches VS number of competiting sites (all the factors above can give you more factors to consider)for the term.

You generally want to find a balance between number of searches vs number of competiting sites. Of course, if you have very good copywriting skills then you can go really specific to the keyword as the low searches would probably convert for you!

Competition is relative. A pro SEO user will definately have a higher threshold for larger number of competitive sites.

    Hope it helps a little!

Low competition can be some keyword that has high searches but low competitors or less searches with low competitors. Low competitive keywords are usually bit easy to target and get on top of google but high competitive keywords need hard and more work to get on top and they are for sure more effective as well.
    Thanks
