Best free tools for monitoring competition?

Hi guys,

I'm just starting so don't want to spend money on products until I'm actually making money. What free tools would you recommend for the following actions?

1. Monitoring the competitions keywords, their ranking, and the potential traffic they might receive and estimated value. I know SEMRush and SpyFu offer this. They limit the number of keywords you can see to 5. Is there any other services that might offer more, even if it means splitting the job between two services?

Also, is there any services that offer intelligent keyword services? Such as maybe when you pick a keyword they offer other long tails as recommendations...

    you wanna drown yourself in endless list of almost the same Tools, I would
    suggest select one you already know works and use it.

    Some good tools listed here. I know you don't want to hear this, but investing in tools is one of the best things you can do for yourself when you're just starting out. Even if you have to take on a second job for a few months. Trust me.

    That said, I'll add to the list:

    1. TagBoard.com

    Instantly find active hashtags with passionate users. You can then @mention them or just post to the tag itself. Don't be spammy. You want to build relationships. Do this consistently and you will see results.

    2. WooBox.com

    Limited functionality at the free level, but you can still use it to customize your Facebook page and stand out.


    TwitteReach' Pro prices are insane, and you can get all of that data for free via Twitter Analytics, which is free.
