Link each other 2 website to improve SEO?

Hi,
What about if I link each other 2 website to improve the SEO ranking for both?
I have older and newer websites that needs to be ranked.
Would this work without getting banned from Google?

    It's tough to give you an answer for that unless it's been tried by someone. But, I think that interlinking just two websites is not that significant to spell a penalty. Even link exchange which is quite similar to what you are thinking of doing is not something that Google is completely against. Google is against excessive link exchange, therefore interlinking your two sites may not be a problem.

    If your two website niche are similar then you can exchange link one with another. If they are totally different in niche then it is better to exchange only 1/2 links. If you exchange huge links, then there is a risk of penalty.

    Link exchange between two similar subject, topic sites is more useful than different subject sites. So, you can do it. There is no penalty for it.
