Hi everyone.

I've spent the last few days compiling a list of keywords for a new site I'm working on (Small niche site).

I've managed to come up with around 30 keywords, all getting at least 1000 searches a month and a decent CPC.

My question is, when I begin writing content...

Should I write 1 article around each keyword?

Or pick maybe 15 keywords and include the other keywords in the articles?

I hope that makes sense - I'm basically wondering whether I should write an individual piece of content (web page) for each keyword, or combine them.

    Do both. Write one article on each keyword and use the others in it as well. Then have internal links from within the articles to your other keyword articles using the other keywords as anchors.

      Yes, do both. Have you heard of the siloing concept? The idea is to pick you main keyword and title the article with the main keyword. Then try to work in a couple other keywords as h2 or h3 tags. Then just fill in as many of the other long-tail keywords as you can in the content. But, of course, make it sound natural, not spun.

      This main article should be long. At least over 1,000 words. Then create other articles on the specific long-tail keywords. They should be atleast 400 words. Then create a link or two in the smaller articles pointing to the main article. The link could be a keyword, or just random words.

      Be sure that not all your internal links are keyword. Make it look natural, and not too keyword rich. For example, "for more info on this topic see here." And hyperlink "on this topic" to the main article.

      Also, include a couple links out to other sites like wikipedia or other authority topic blogs which give a good definition or explanation of your subject matter.

      Adding relevant FAQs at the bottom of each article is a good way to do this too.

      Try to have a ratio of atleast 200-300 words for every link used. And links need to be 10% keywords, 30% longtail or spun varients, and the rest random "click here" type.

      Try to find a relevant youtube video and a picture to add to each of the articles.

      Don't use adsense right away. Don't connect the links right away. Write the articles first, and plan your linking on paper. Then after a week or two, start connecting links in the articles.

    It depends on what you're using the articles for.

    If you want to use them to try to attract search-engine traffic to your own site, that might be a good idea, I suppose. If you want to use them for article marketing, then very much less so, if at all (article marketing has nothing to do with SEO).

    You don't typically need to worry about consciously including other keywords in the articles at all. This kind of business ("latent semantic indexing" as SEO-service-providers sometimes unaccountably call it) is just a jargon-driven way of referring to "the sort of vocabulary that you couldn't avoid using, in writing about your subject, even if you tried to": it really doesn't signify much more than that.

    Is search-engine traffic really what you actually want to attract?

  • It depends on the keywords and how closely related they are.

    For example, qualifying for a reverse mortgage and how to qualify for a reverse mortgage are pretty much identical. I would not include a separate article for each of those.

      Agreed but that reverse mortgage example could be optimized based on state laws, regulations, etc...

      Example:
      • How to Qualify for a Reverse Mortgage Ohio
        • How Does A Reverse Mortgage Work?
        • Who Qualifies for a Reverse Mortgage?
        • How Payments Are Received
        • Tax Rules
        • Maximum Loan Amounts
        • Negative Aspects
        • Is A Reverse Mortgage For You?
        • Other Alternatives
        • Getting a Good Deal
        • A Summary Of Available Plans
        • Government and Non-Profit Agencies

      That example state above could change depending on 50 individual US state laws. I'm not suggesting swapping out the example state (Ohio) for 50 pages, just saying very similar pages could legitimately exist on the same domain.
  • If the keywords are very similar to each other, for example:

    - best place to invest money
    - where to invest money
    - top ways to invest cash

    ...then group all the keywords that are close in meaning to each other and use each group of keywords in a single article. Otherwise, write different articles on each keyword.
