Hi Guys, If you list keywords like this: Electrician - Area ( Suburb) Electrician - different area etc etc - Can you get penalized by google because you are duplicating the word Electrician? If so how can you make sure that you show up in local searches in the areas that are serviced?

One example which seems to not be penalized is this Electrical business front page google 3rd or 4th after search for electrician - the 3 in front are Adword businesses.

Would really appreciate the best way to do this.

Thanks again,

Renee

haha, way to do some forum seo posting there ceaserbuck

no you can't get a penalty for trying to rank for multiple keywords, and if you are an electirician chances are that most of your keywords will contain at least some variation of 'electrician'

what could get you up the wrong way is having seperate pages for optimized for:

    Electrician Area 1
    Electrician Area 2
    Electrician Area 3

blah blah so on and so forth - if you have a look at the page you are linking to from your post you can see how this looks when it goes OTT.

Consider scaling back a bit - chances are if you havn't already you will get some kind of slap for having so much 'not so unique and helpful' content through the site.
and its very possible to rank 1 page for several areas and locations.

please don't get me wrong - having dedicated pages for specific terms isnt the problem here - the issue I see is that when you read the content on each of those pages really doesnt offer any benefit other than for SEO. And being able to write such brilliant content about electiricians in every area imaginable is probably not at the top of your to-do list -

so, consider merging some pages together - using some kind of map/search function to locate the closest provider- also you can combine link building efforts by having less pages, but ranking for more terms each - its pretty much a win-win here
