I like to ask you about Youtube ranking.
What makes Youtube rank a video on the top?

a) the number of viewers
b) likes
c) keywords
d) suscribers
e) links

    + USER INTERACTION; meaning all likes, views, subs and comments etc need to come from real people. (Not the "real" people on fiverr gigs, but real people).

    Other basic stuff helps; original video, good quality and a non-penalized YT account.

    Oh and one other thing, when you upload your video, put yourself in the perspective of your customers, would you watch it? Is it interesting? Does the video content make you believe that's something you'd want? etc; make it for the viewers not the SEO.

      I have to agree with this user. :-)

      Title, tags, and keywords in the description are all important, but they will never beat out user engagement for ranking. The strongest factor in determining video ranking is how engaged viewers are. Engagement factors in:

      *likes/dislikes
      *shares
      *comments
      *added to playlists/favorites
      *subscriptions to your channel from the video
      *length of viewership

      etc.

      YouTube tracks all of these things.

      Think of it as what is 'trending' on Twitter. The more engagement a video gets, positive or negative, the higher it ranks. That's why you can search a certain phrase two different months and end up seeing different videos in the top 10 results.

      YouTube is a tough algorithm to game, really. Kinda like Google.

    There's two types of rankings you might be interested in. First, how well your video ranks on Google and second how well it ranks for a search made directly on Youtube. You can optimize your video page with keywords and thorough description to rank better on Google search. And, to rank better in Youtube search, you need to engage your subscribers and people watching your video and get them to interact with you to increase your video's popularity.

    You should start with promoting your videos, making the interesting and using the right keywords. This you can control! As for all the rest, it's not just up to you anymore But if you do the first part right, you should be ok!

    All of the factors that you've mentioned.

    Another key thing: you need to write thorough description about your video on the description box. You will also need to mention your Keywords on the description.

    You will also need to mention a lot of tags in the tag box until you reach the maximum. This is where you will put ALL your Keywords.

    You will need to generate traffic to your videos just like you do in sites.

    One big factor with Youtube videos are the metrics related to how many people watch the whole video.

    If you have a people where 90% abandon it in the within the first half of the video, it tells Google that your video either isn't relevant, or doesn't have sufficient enough content to keep the interest of the viewer.
