backlinks / social bookmarking : massive confusion

Hello i have some questions about backlinks / social bookmarking. Please bear with me because these might seem really stupid and basic.

First i understand that a backlink is a link from another site to yours and google counts these as votes when searches are performed

I also understand that a keyword is a term someone searches for in google. If that keyword is in your site than your site will come up in the SERPS. Your site's position in the SERPS will be determined by many factors one of which is the number of quality backlinks.

So to get a top spot on google you should have these keywords on your site and have many backlinks which you can get by bookmarking your blog posts on do follow social bookmarking sites.

i am asking all this because:

i have a blog that is only getting 15 hits a day if i'm lucky. I get this traffic from 80 articles i have on EZA about 20 of these articles are on the front page of google.

The thing is my blog nowhere on google. If i do a search for one of my main keywords i'm not even on the 10th page.

So i sould be able to get into the ranking if i just bookmark my posts over and over and build up back links. Is this right

If i bookmark a post on 20 bookmarking sites everyday for ten days and get 200 or so backlinks will i move up for that keyword. Does it matter how many bookmarks i post a day could i do a 100 a day

So would the right thing be to just endlessly bookmark my posts and articles, also do i check if what i'm doing is actually effective

another thing, last week i put all 80 of my articles on goarticles over a period of three days. Before this i was on page four for my keyword but now i have vanished, does anyone know why this might be

Thank you for your time and patience

    Hi C,

The thing about GoArticles is that they seem much more responsive to backlinking than EZA articles.

IMHO, 80 articles is WAY too many to focus on for backlinking. Pick out your 10 most Google-loved articles and backlink those ferociously on properly researched keywords.

Same goes for your blog. Backlink a specific post WITHIN your blog and the whole site should get yanked up the rankings - eventually. Once you start, keep backlinking the same articles/pages with the same keywords and keep at it.

I find that it can take up to 8 weeks to solidify a great position through backlinking so be patient and just keep grinding away.

At the moment, your focus is too broad. Better to have even one article doing great than 80 that are doing nothing.

Finally C, it sounds like your bio box isn't pulling enough clicks. Go to EZA, do a search on Steve Wagenheim (senior Warrior here) and read a few of his bio boxes and change yours.

At EZA, the bio box is EVERYTHING so get that right before writing any more articles!

At GA, you can stick links everywhere IN the article itself AND the bio box.

    Hope this helps.

I suggest that you shouldn't rely on a single backlink source - social bookmarking, for instance, can not bring in the results you would like to see. Also you have to understand that in link building results accumulate over time, i.e. you can't jump-start a site to the top and have it rest there for a lengthy period of time. Therefore try to configure your backlink campaign so that it would include a variety of backlinks - the "organic" ones from related sites being the best option to strive for (although there's not much you can do to affect that apart from building quality content and increasing your blog's overall visibility).

I wouldnt count on much from bookmarks - in the context of "backlinks". They will work great to bring the bots back to where your links are to get them spidered and recognized by google and Yahoo and bing and other SE's.

Id done a lot of bookmarking and rss feed aggregation thru a handful of rss aggregators .... backlinks from those sites to my sites - nominal - almost NON existent.

Let me know if you have better luck. I bookmark and rss agg . for sure - but just to get the bots BACK to where the real backlinks are.
