Subdomains a bad idea for SEO ?

My website is a local directory site .I wish to launch it slowly in multiple cities ..so i am planning to host different cities on subdomains..is it a bad idea for seo ?

    From an SEO perspective it's a bad idea, Google treats a sub-domain like a separate domain, so you have to work on a sub-domain like you would a newly registered domain (more work).

    Think blogspot.com blogs (all sub-domains), you don't gain any SEO benefit from the other sub-domains when you register a new one.

    Subdomains just doesn't matter to Google. Each subdomain is considered a separate website with separate hosting fees for each subdomain website. What matters for Google still boils down to Quality Content.
