If you take the time to learn how to set it up, it can be pretty much fully automated

I guess depending on your niche , rankings vary. With a news site you have tons of authority figures that are going to be nearly impossible to outrank, therefore I'd focus more on the social media aspect to build up a following for traffic. My two cents.

Forget about the things "automated" just do everything manually. Write fresh and rich content which will help you to get natural backlinks and increase your authority as a blogger.

Personally I'd avoid SEOnuke any automated baclink software ( unless it's bespoke) places you at risk if being a spam site

I would recommend you to use Attracta SEO tool or All in one SEO plugin to perform SEO for your news Blog.

I would also recommend you to do social bookmarking and guest blogging along with blog commenting. They can help you to generate quality backlinks.

USE Always Manual SEO Strategy to implement for all posts. That will give good boost and helpful fr the long run for your blog. Dont think about 1 or 2 months. This will helpful for the years.

Avoid any "SEO software" that claims to be automated. The only thing you'll get is an automatic penalty when Google finds you (and they will find you).

If you want to actually build long term traffic to your blog, focus on traffic generation methods OTHER than SEO. Forum posting, blog commenting, YouTube are good. Social media is good. Networking with other bloggers is especially good. That's what's going to get you the type of backlinks you're looking for. The good backlinks Google actually cares about. The backlinks with value are going to come from other relevant websites within your niche. Focus on other traffic methods, and your search engine rankings will improve naturally.

I'm not aiming this at you specifically but I'm kind of fed up with people thinking that SEO is the answer to everything. It's not. SEO traffic converts horribly and its only real power (in my opinion) is in its numbers. You don't need a ton of visitors to make a good amount of money off of your site. You DO need to be able to retain the visitors you already have. Traffic is worthless if you can't make money off of it.

Nothing against automated tools but if you really want to rank on SERPs, you better stick to quality, original content rather than using automated services to post content on your website. The thing today is, if you want to rank on SERPs, better do everything with quality work. Quantity is no longer important these days. Instead focus more on quantity content and backlinks.
