Backlinks are dead

Buying cheap backlinks from the Big Site (you know the one) is a total waste of money now, they will have no effect what so ever. In fact it's the fastest way to go down the rankings.

It's all about content now - White flag raised to Matt Cutt's.

  • It was always a bad idea to buy cheap backlinks. Agree with you, though.

  • Cheap Backlinks - Yeah they are dead long time ago. If you want to rank long term, sure you must build high quality backlinks.

But it does matter if you mix it up with good backlinks. I have a site with very cheap backlinks (web 2.0's, directories, blog comments) but its ranking good because of the linking structure, link velocity and my strategy. So if you do it right and mix it up they will rank for sure. I know it may be dead in next G update, but hey its my own cash and burn system.

  • Well, to be fair, your thread title is a little misleading. Backlinks in general are not dead, but if you're purchasing cheap backlinks (especially via sites like Fiverr), then yes — you're not going to gain any kind of value that way.

    • This. I don't see the point now with buying links.
  • Never go with cheap backlinks. You need to try getting backlinks from sites that almost nobody else can get, so it can give you more Authority!

  • Well I don't know the one. Is he talking about fiverr? I never considered them a source for backlinks.
  • You can rank #1 on Google with as little as 6 backlinks. They have to be relevant and from authority sites. There really isn't much more to it.
  • Backlinks Stills works in off page Seo . we should to go for cheap and low domain athority backlinks. Getting backlinks form quality sites is much better that bunch of low quality backlinks.
  • Yes building cheap and low quality back link is total dead
  • I would be interested to see someone post 500 articles on a site and see if they magically gain rankings. In my experience it doesn't get you on the map. It sucks too because to ensure quality I have to write everything myself, so 500 lengthy articles takes a long, long, long time. Especially when the monotony kicks in.

Are you talking about the black site by the way, or Fiverr? I definitely found links on the black one are an absolute disgrace. The PBNs are nice but you won't last and they're not getting you on the map for "buy *product*" type words. Especially not now that sites like Lowes and Amazon have an automatic "I WIN" for those terms.

I only semi-outsource now. I.e. I pay someone to find me writers with access to major authority sites. They call this "Custom Link Acquisition" it seems. I have a couple of other aces up my sleeve too, but I've yet to play those as my site is too new. First time doing SEO work myself and it's a real struggle to get DoFollow links that aren't exceptionally spamtacular, I'm only trying to diversify the anchor profile.

Yes , buying back links are really bad idea.
if you want to rank your website then do niche relevant PBN .

    • How do you diversify your anchor text with only a PBN? Always feels wasteful to put up a non-keyword rich anchor on a PBN site. I feel like 100% forum backlinks would look dodgy, but then the alternatives are like doc sharing sites and that's just got SPAM written all over.
  • Never buy cheap links i never did the same ever.
  • Never buy those links which are not indexing instant
  • It was only waste of money, i am also victim of this activity, it's really bad idea to buy cheap backlinks, Agree with you.
now post niche content, your site will automatically rank..., though.

    • You know, I wrote an article so good recently that boosted on Facebook it scored over 100 shares (including shares from fan pages in my niche) and over 300 likes in just a few days. It's a very good article, and so it should be because it took me days to research and write and create images for. Well, what did I get for my efforts?

Well Yahoo! Answers is on page one with zero backlinks and no incidences of the main keyword, and the number one result is a broken-English Indian spam site which has survived Penguin 2.1 AND Penguin 3.0 (I know as I've been in this niche since May 2013). But I'm page 50. I used to be page one on my old site but I got hit BADLY by Penguin.

But no matter because I scored some real links through my social campaign and a few powerful ones so I know I'll shoot up the charts when they finally get indexed.

But just writing alone? I really think you could write great content for years and maybe then, and only then, after 5 years of painstaking work, would you finally crack page 5 for a search term with over 5,000 monthly searches. Lol.

I ranked naturally a few times before but only on sites which had links pointing to some other pages. A site with ZERO links to any page? It's just a dead fish.
  • I guess with the new updates, buying cheap anything is pretty much worthless. Be it likes, followers, or backlinks.

you won't get quality, it'll just be spam so why waste one's money. The same money can be invested elsewhere where you may get less, but at least it'll be worth something!
  • I think we should try to create a very useful, informative, resource-rich page on an authority site and link to our money site through that page. We can create such a page on Facebook, G+, Scoop.it and other such authority sites. Make sure the page is of extremely high value. Don't hesitate to spend even up to a week or more to gather and compile content for such an authority page. Once you have it, try to get backlinks to that page and get some social signals.

One of the benefits of this strategy is that this resource page will link to several useful, high-quality articles/videos/news items in your niche. Along with these links will be a link to your website. Google might give lot more weightage to your website since it is being linked from a page which has links to lots of other high quality pages. Hope you get my point!

    • You don't get DoFollow links through Facebook though... Also if you're going for this strategy just remember to make sure your super resource page doesn't contain your exact keyword, lest it start ranking for your term when people begin linking to it

By the way about social signals, I usually run FB ads to get mine... I've been shared on major fan pages etc so lots of signals coming in. Personally not seen any effect from that but could be coincidence.
  • the best action was, pay some one who have a skill on build a PBN for your money site (remember just keep private not share with any one) or try to build it by your self
  • Not sure I totally agree with you there buddy! ..

The problem is not the "cheap backlinks" or even the quality of the backlinks ... the REAL problem is YOU. LOL ... the REAL Problem is what YOU Do with these type of backlinks.

You wanna know what I personally do with these type of backlinks?

I ONLY use them for a Tiered Backlinking Strategy. I will NEVER EVER use them for my main site, my money site!! ... that would be dumb!

These type of "cheap backlinks" work very well for Tiered Backlink Strategies.

If you know what I'm talking about here; what you wanna do is use these type of backlinks for your Tier 2 and on.

I wouldn't use them for my main site and my Tier 1 backlinks.

From tier 2 and on, you can buy any type of backlinks ... as long as the backlinks are from somewhat relevant site, of course!

    Just my 2cents!

    Cheers!
