One link, Is it Risky?

I have an established health related website with pretty good authority. One of the articles on this site is about stopping smoking. I have another brand new website about e-cigarettes. I would like to make a link from the no smoking article on my health site to my new e-cig site.

Both sites are in my google webmaster tools...

Do you think Google will understand and allow me to make such a link without punishment? Or will Google consider that link manipulation and hurt me?

  • There is nothing wrong with linking between two legitimate websites that you control if they are related. Google won't punish your site. More than likely it will simply ignore the link as far as passing rank or authority
  • Do you know how childish the OP sounds.

    • If he makes such a link Google will send him to the naughty step to think about what he's done

  • Nope, nothing wrong in inter-linking sites. Even if there is no context, inter linking is possible (e.g. list websites in my Blogroll). Also, it is not illegal (yet) to have diverse interests.

I do it all the time in my PBN..oops, that is going to be punished all right. Let me check back later **jump** to my interlinking disaster.
  • Go For It
  • It's fine to link one to the other, but don't do it in a spammy way, like simply slapping a DoFollow link in the footer.

Either make a blogroll link, make a blog post about it, or do something else creative.

    • Thanks for your answers... yeah well.. I do feel like a little kid asking such a question. Google has slapped me before obviously and I am pretty afraid these days. I finally got that health site un-penalized so I am just making sure it doesn't end up penalized again.

but I do see how pathetic it sounds... kinda like Big Mr google took all my candy bars away and after I cleaned up the site Mr Google gave them back but now I want to give one those candy bars to my friend but I am intimidated by the possibility that Mr Google might not like me to give my friend one and he might take away my candy bars again.

  • an interesting one from UnkwnUsr, I'll see if there's something I can share too in this subject.
  • Definitely, it just sounds like a really smart move to me
  • I wonder if that link would be appropriate for your overall sales strategy, though. If you're offering the e-cigarette as a method to help quit smoking (because it has a variable nicotine dosage so they can gradually lower it over time ... plus it's easier to quit, because it still feels like a real cigarette where gum does not), then that seems to fit well. But, if you're simply selling cigarettes to people trying to quit, that may not fit well with a no-smoking article in terms of your overall sales strategy.
