Personally, I use wordpress for almost all of my sites because it makes adding consistent content much easier (at least for me). Also, wordpress has like a gazzilion plugins to make almost anything you want to do really easy by just getting a plugin.

Like everyone else is saying, it makes no difference really, it's all what you prefer to work with

It can make a difference if you allow wordpress to take over your site.
Many of the settings are not needed, or worse, can muck things up.

What's funny, is I look at those gazillion plugins as just junk for the
most part. Why do you need a plugin?

I won't even mention that wp spits out html, as I assume you mean
      hand coding...

Hand coding using php (whch YES does spit out html too...) is
so easy to add content, it's like taking candy from a baby.

Raw html coding, is so terrific. You can sculpt your pages exactly
      as you wish.

You really need zero plugins if your CMS is top notch.

      Wordpress, is not top notch.

And would take you how long to do so, while you can install wordpress with the right plugins easily and get on with the content already.

I'm not saying Wordpress is the end-all. It's not. But for friends I can buy hosting, install wordpress, get them a beautiful theme, show them how to add blog posts and be done with it.

Or I can tell them to learn how to code.

For a newbie i think it is better to choose wordpress since everything is already done for user. All the plugins for seo and other stuff is ready.

But for advanced user it surely doesnt matter.

Technically, html is superior to php (dynamically served pages) but as others have said, Wordpress has excellent SEO wise.
