Does one have the ability to rank for a keyword on Google in a specific city only? f so how does one go about ranking for a specific keyword in a specific city?

  • What's the context? Do you have a location in said city? Or is your service somehow specific to the city?

    • Ok, a church that I am working with has a celebrate recovery program that helps people with things such as alcohol abuse, drug abuse, pornography etc Would it be easy to write a blog post and have it rank for one of those keywords for that city.

  • I've done it loads of times. Google "business cards: and set the location to "kansas city".

Here's the big idea: your onpage tells Google what you're relevant for, the offpage seo provides the power.

So make sure your target keyword and target city are found side by side everywhere you are supposed to insert a keyword.

Then, focus your offpage splitting just the keyword or permutations of the keyword with mixing in the city.

Obviously follow a conservative anchor text ratio in the Penguin 3 era....but you get the idea.

  • Ranking a local keyword is all about getting links from your local city.

And basically how it work is, you type the keyword in the search engine of the city and the result comes up based on where the site is in the SERP.
  • try getting local biz directories citations and your clients reviews.
