Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am generally new to this section so please do not judge hard my thoughts/comments. Let me go straight to the point.
I am opening a series/movies/anime streaming website with embed subtitles and high definition resolution. I target for greek and international traffic and I have already talked with a few famous subtitle maker websites in order to partner up. However I wouldn't like to count only on them and on social networks (facebook, twitter etc.), that's why I decided to learn more about google ranking and SEO and I started reading e-books and guides. I learnt a lot of things, obviously I need to go deeper, and I also do not expect anyone to spoon-feed me or to give me his secrets so I just wanted to get the basics and then go on using my own mind and my own strategy. This is a competitive world and I am aware of that, however there are some guys who help by just giving the right directions and this is what I am seeking for.
So after my research, the following questions came up to my mind:

1) I've seen a lot of websites having less backlinks than others but they have higher ranking. Why is this happening?

2) Some guides/ebooks say that in order to rank higher, it's important to create tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 links. Does this part mean that I have to create multiple blogs/web 2.0 sites which have to be related to my niche? If yes, what you suggest me to do since my series website contain hundreds of movies and series. I mean what the content of those blogs/web 2.0 sites should be proper.

3) Senuke, Scrapebox, Spinners. Are they still working? Does it worth to invest my money and my time to go for them?

4) Exchange traffic (adf.ly etc.). Is it useful at all?

5) Directories/Articles Directories. Which ones (links if possible) will be useful for my niche?

That's all for now. I am sure more questions will come up while I will read/learn more. Let's hope I will find some help here, since I have plenty of free time and will to work for my projects and my dreams.

Thanks,
Frank

    Hi,

I going to try and cover what I can because your answer will require a lot of information. First, Google has over 200 ranking factors so anything can influence which websites rank higher than the others. It's not always about backlinks but could be a few things: Backlinks, Age, Quality of Content, Credibility, Engagement and keywords. It's important to note you'll never know why one is outranking another and the reasons behind it.

Some guides/ebooks say that in order to rank higher, it's important to create tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 links. Very tough question. I would suggest you , if you choose to create a PBN, to focus on specific pages which will convert well. For example if 3-4 pages have keywords which can drive traffic to your website I would focus on those. I would research keywords for my website and do some on-page SEO and than build websites focused around those keywords linking back to my website. This way you are not focusing on a huge project but on "targeted" keywords with the potential to drive traffic to your website through "targeted" keywords. For example,

On my website I have around 4-5 keywords with high traffic volume. The competition isn't too bad so I created a PBN focusing on those keyword. If I rank well, it will bring traffic to my website.

Senuke, Scrapebox, Spinners. Are they still working? Does it worth to invest my money and my time to go for them?
My project has taken longer because I don't use tools. They don't do a good job and I'm afraid of getting flagged by using spinners etc. I've done manual research and write content manually. If I need to purchase anything I'll use Fiverr and buy a gig but still will be careful how I utilize it.

Exchange traffic (adf.ly etc.). Is it useful at all?
Shitty traffic and I wouldn't waste my time or money. It doesn't help my cause in anyway. Doesn't increase conversions, engagement or credibility.

Directories/Articles Directories. Which ones (links if possible) will be useful for my niche?
I created a list of 80 Article directories which would be perfect for link building. Check them out and be sure to create good content. They usually cover all niches!

    80 Do-Follow Article Directories

Hope this help! I made it quick and right to the point.

      Ugh.

Do not use article directories for links. They are awful. Low quality garbage.

      1) The number of backlinks does not matter. The number of quality backlinks does.

      2) For the most part, they are talking about building tiers of spam. You are better off avoiding this if you do not know what you are doing.

      3) Scrapebox is useful for a lot of different things. Don't go around chasing tools though. Too many people buy these tools because they hear others talking about them, but have no idea what to do with them. Develop a plan. Then if you find tools that fit into your plan, go for those.

      4) Crap

      5) Real directories are fine. Article directories, as I said above, are total garbage.

    1) Counting backlinks doesn't tell you a single thing about the strength of each individual backlink.

    2) They use tiers because they're blasting crap links they would never point at their money domain/page. Skip the nonsense & build decent links pointing at the money page.

    3) If it sounds spammy, it's probably spammy. SB has some data sorting uses that don't involve junk links.

    4) adfly is junk.

    5) If it's a free directory that isn't moderated, it's going to get hit with spam. Stay out of the spammy neighborhoods.

Thanks for your replies guys! I really appreciate that!
As I said new questions came up:

    1) So since quantity doesn't matter, how I can find quality backlinks? I was planning to add famous backlinks from partnerships, but except that what else can I use? Creating my own blogs or web 2.0 sites using other keywords which will point to my main site will work too?
    2) What are real directories? I mean what's the difference with article ones. Any example?

    Hi,

The best advice I can give you to build backlinks and authority would be to look for guest posting opportunities. Now even though Google has said that guest posting won't be valuable for building links and that many guest blogs actually use no-follow, it can still be a powerful tool. When guest posting on popular blogs you can attract a large following to your brand and blog. Some blogs have thousands of visitors month. Many of these visitors have their own blogs and if they like what you've written in your guest post or on your blog, they don't have a problem building a link back. Now,

Again quality of content is important and which blogs you choose is very important as well. Find relevant blogs and look over their engagement. Also, PBN or Web 2.0 have worked but they are a lengthy process and must be done correctly. Again, I have built mine manually and they can be of value for years to come.

    As for article directories...

I would choose 4-5 of the top ones which are moderated and have a solid track record. Bookmarking can be useful too.

  • Pretty much what yukon and mike said. Quality over quantity all day. Look for some guest post opps on similar websites that also have authority. Also tiers can work but you have to be very careful. So don't use them unless you know exactly what you are doing. Accidentally blasting 1000+ links to your money site and it's off to the disavow tool lol

    And...

    What I said previously

Many of these visitors have their own blogs and if they like what you've written in your guest post or on your blog, they don't have a problem building a link back. Now,
Again when looking for guest opportunities authority is one thing but engagement is another. Look for frequency and activity on the website so it can be beneficial to you. There is no point publishing on 20 relevant blogs which have 10 people visiting a day. I rather post to "2" and they have 1,000 visitors a day. This way you get noticed and it meets your objective.

Okay I got it about guest posting, and real directories (active ones).
However is this all about SEO? Sounds to easy to be real, I mean:
    - Backlinks (guest posting, hq backlinks from partnerships/other blogs/sites with relative content)
    - Video marketing
    - Social Marketing (facebook, twitter etc.)
    - Active directory posting
    And that's it?

I also read mr AskAnAffiliate blog here: Creating Web 2.0 Properties
This is why I asked about creating more blogs/web 2.0 sites related to my niche and make backlinks.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

This is why I asked about creating more blogs/web 2.0 sites related to my niche and make backlinks.
There are "3" things I'm focusing on which is: Guest Posting, Web 2.0's and Epic High Quality Content that people need and want.

Now Web 2.0 can be very effective as you can see in the "CASE STUDY" I'm performing. I have about 5 (expired domain) websites and about 8 Web 2.0's. Now I'm targeting specific keywords which you'll find in my case study. I've also tweaked the strategy adding more keyword as I found useful.

When creating each website no matter through expired domain or web 2.0, you need to make it relevant so when linking out it can make sense. No point in creating a property on "cooking" when you have a blog on "link building". Once you've set these up, it important to keep adding content and building your websites. Again focus on writing content which is relevant and unique.

The link pattern is what you need to be careful about and I've outlined everything in my case study. Read this which will describe the linking pattern I use after the recent deindexing by Google:

    Google De-Indexing

Here is the complete case study in steps:

    Building a Private Blog Network

I'm writing an update right now which should be published soon. Since everything for me is manually things are taking longer than expected. However, results are solid.
