Revamping Old Forum

I have a gaming forum database that was shut down in 2008. At that time forum had about 92k posts, 7K users and 1000+ visitors at a given time.

Domain has since been dropped, deleted and registered by other people. I have recently registered a new domain and put up the forum with the backed up database. My question is,

Is Google is going to index all the content of the forum in new domain - Is there going to be any penalty moving the old content to a different domain name. So far in a day Google have had indexed around 250 pages but still thousands to go.

    As long as the old forum pages aren't curently on other domains you'll be fine, it takes time to index thousands of pages.

    Build an xml sitemap & submit to Webmaster Tools to help speed up indexing. Add the xml sitemap URL to your robots.txt file. Basically give Google as many options as possible to find the new webpages.

    Maybe even add a temporary sitewide link in your footer pointing to the .xml sitemap.

    • Thanks Yukon. I have generated a sitemap and submitted via Google webmaster tools. Old forum was owned by me and only I have the database. Website address is 09games.com

      I have converted the vbulletin database to mybb and currently using a SEO addon plugin, links are looking a little weird though with prefix forum- to urls.

    I see 341 pages indexed... up from the OP 250 pages.

    Just takes time...
  • Did you purchase a new domain to rebuild the forum? If yes, it's going to take a long time to get those pages indexed because the domain has no authority. The higher the authority, the deeper and faster the site is crawled. Penalties is a nonissue.
