Do you think you can rank up there with top players in ecommerce whether it is office product sites, security product websites, etc...?

Can you pull it off on a low budget?

How far can you get with seo skills?

Cheers

It depends, but I personally don't think it is possible in short term.

Are you considering local searches? I think it is more practical to compete with local searches.

Compete with ecommerce website like amazon, it is quite difficult.

For anyone to answer your question they'd need more information. What is a "top player" exactly? How strong are the competitors you're talking about in terms of their backlinks, or their domain authority, or the quality of their content, or their age etc etc?

Further, it might be the wrong question you're asking. In so many markets you don't need to compete against the best sites in order to make money. You can often find long tail keyword opportunities to enter a market and bring profitable traffic and real revenue while leaving the "top players" to do their thing fighting over the most competitive terms.

Hope this gives some food for thought anyway.

I think it depends on your approach. I've been surprised when using keyword planners at the number of quite obvious and popular search terms which are low competition because everyone is fighting over the top keywords, as Andrew said. I think if you are clever about the way you use your keywords - choosing ones that position you in a niche, for example - then you can rank highly.

As has been mentioned already, perhaps it's not a case of competing directly with the big companies (because you will lose), but finding ways to narrow your focus and access your target market through smaller channels that bigger companies wouldn't bother with.

Where there's a market and an industry there's a way to compete.

They say some are saturated or impossible..

But then there'd be no-one trying.

You can compete if you do it right. Learning how to do it right is the hard part because only results will prove to you what's possible.

If you see results, keep doing what you're doing and that is competing.

If by a low budget you mean $3-4k a month, then yeah maybe.

Why do you think it needs all that money - cause of cost to product content, etc...?

I understand more money is surely an advantage but I wonder if people can rank high doing a lot themselves but I guess if you get into a competitive area you may be against people spending tens of thousands monthly to keep creating stuff for their site.

Chances are you will spend more on link building than you will on content to get your site ranking above the top players. A low budget just won't cut it.
