New to SEO but Not Online Sales Newbie Here | Intro

Hi, I am brand new to this forum and this is my first real go at learning about SEO and implementing it to my sites. I did not see an intro forum so thought I'd post here. I am here more to read articles and follow relevant threads.

Currently I run quite a few very profitable sites, I make my living solely off of these websites though they may not do too well as far as SEO and organic search results go. I am a salesman first and have been very good at it but am looking to take my company on a new path and branch out.

My main question involves the use of key words and site selection and whether it is best to target multiple (but similar) key words to one site or break them into two websites.

The key words are TOWN Martial Arts and TOWN Kickboxing (as well as there variations). Would I be better off splitting this into two websites (such as TOWNMartialArts.com & TOWNKickboxing.com) and having two separate SEO campaigns or just run the same campaigns on one single site?

Although I am sure using two distinct sites will work best I would like some opinions. In the past for my money sites I have used category specific sites but this had less to do with the SEO and more to do with the branding and sale.

Thank you everyone! By the way if you happen to be in the martial arts or fitness field I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner!

I'm assuming this is a real brick and mortar business.

If that is the case, using two sites would be pretty dumb. The domain name does not pay much of an impact in rankings. Plus if you are trying to rank in a local town, you need citations in local directories. You cannot enter two different websites for the same physical address/business in those.

I should have said that although it is the same business we have actually split them into two corporations and we have two units in a building but they are right next to each other. One side is our kickboxing and fitness facility the other is our martial arts program. Since we have two units each has its own mailing address and phone number.

Though as of now we advertise and work as TOWN Martial Arts and Kickboxing, with just our one phone number and address, whihc is the original one before we expanded to the neighboring unit.

    That's different.

I would say then that it depends more on your long-term goals. If a lot of your marketing is going to be done jointly with a close association between the two businesses, I would just use one site probably.

If there is going to be a fairly big distinction between them and not so much joint marketing, I would do 2 websites.

SEO-wise, you will be fine with either method really.

I would use just one domain and use categories to separate the services being offered. Its not advisable to use two domains when both businesses are so closely related.
