physical address change

Does changing my physical address (moved my office) have any affect on google SEO?

I moved my office about 2 months ago and noticed a huge drop in site visits and organic results. I have changed my address on every site I can think of and it still hasn't gone back up to where it was at my old office.

Any thoughts or ideas?

  • Maybe your site was hit by a manual/algorithmic penalty and it coincided with the transition. Check your webmaster tools account for any manual pemalties.
  • How far of a move are you talking about?
  • Did you work for Google and then moved over to Bing? Might be some haters over at G.
  • I think your site was hit by Google recent updates. Check Google Webmaster Tools to check your websites manual action.

    • We were getting at least one inquiry a day from all over the US and now we might get one per week. I am not sure how to find the manual penalties in the google webmaster area. Will look again this morning.
  • I forgot to mention we do not do anything illegal or in the grey area in regards to SEO. I have no intention of doing anything to piss off the google machine. We were good to go for a while and then all of a sudden it just fell way off.
  • Sorry another addition. I did sign up for Cyfe and Quill at the suggestion of my PR company. Are they bad?
  • When did the drop in traffic occur?

    • Well according to the two months timeline you moved in October and there was a major penguin update. So that could be a factor. As well if you updated your address and you were getting local hits then that also could affect things (but you said you get them from all over the US so thats probably not the issue)
  • The drop started right on the 15th of October. We really don't have anything the google machine would dislike. I have never paid for any links to keyword stuffing, or anything like that. I did have a few pages (one on Manta and one on YouTube) taken down that were fake. Someone set up a fake page on those directories and used my website link but put in their own fake email address. So those pages were deleted from both in Mid October as well.
  • Nobody is going to be able to answer for sure without seeing the site, but based on the timing, that sounds like you got hit by Penguin.
  • Is it smart to post my site here? I've never posted anything on Warrior Forum until now so I don't know the rules. How could I get hit with Penguin if I don't do anything illegal?
  • I would never post a site I cared about here, but that's just me.

Penguin has nothing to do with doing anything illegal.
