I want to rank my website on 1st page, right now it is on the 2nd page in google SERP.

I did competitor analysis and found that they have done a lot of paid promotion and have backlinks from high authority sites like forbes and wikipedia.

I think it is very difficult for my website to get a link from the sites mentioned above. So my question is how can I outrank them?

Thanks

You can also get the link from Forbes and wikipedia, just find out how did they got those links. Ex. if they got any mention on forbes article then outreach that respective author, engage with him on social media and help him for his next topic, this might help you to get mention on his next article for forbes.

Yes.. focus on the most important factors: backlinks and traffic..

And keep in mind that SEO (and SEO results) should only be a portion of your business-and-marketing model.. even how important or cost-efficient it may be in the long run, never leave SEO to be the only component of your online earning life..

I see some replies above encouraging you to make efforts to get the same authority backlinks your competitor has. It's a valid whitehat link building strategy, but make sure you have a good website that deserves those kinds of links before attempting to get them or else it will turn out to be a waste of time.
