Temporary recovery then back to Penguin penalty?

Anyone know what is going on? Anyone seen something lime this? Before when searching my keyword I cam up page 3 then a few minutes later back to page 7-9 and brand name search doesn't show up first either.

Could Google be experimenting with letting penalties go?

It is disturbing seeing it go right back to penalty but at the same time hopeful that it's possible. Seems like Google is bordering between letting penalties go and not.

I've seen this too. I'd imagine your site is very close to a threshold in terms of links (Penguin) or content (Panda) and in one "algorithm" you are 0.1% clear and in another you are -0.1% under.

I'd need to see the site and have more background but in the absence I'd say keep going it looks like you are almost there!

    Cheers,
    Paz.

Could simply be that you were just hitting different data centers and all the changes were not fully rolled out to all the data centers.

Do searches use different data centers when searching from the same location? How long could it take to settle?

      Cheers

Yes; depends on geolocation, load at individual centers etc
How long could it take to settle?
No idea; pre-caffeine days, it could take up to at least a few days to weeks to settle sometime. There were times where different data centers would display different results for some period of time. But all that appeared to chang with caffeine and while it may take some time to roll out a software/algorithm update to all data centers, its certainly not like it used to be. At least now when updates happen, we do not do what we used to do and ping individual data centers to check stats of the update.

Interesting. Thanks. I guess Google will probably sort stuff out over the next few days anyway. Seems like their doing a number of things with the updates now.

I've seen this with a few sites I track who I thought had recovered from penguin but it's not looking like the case.

I have a feeling Google is testing a variety of Penguin changes on a subset of results to see how they look and feel. It doesn't seem to be like this in all markets.
