So I'm still fairly new to the seo world (3+ years) and I recently started a new job. I'm a web dev so my main job is to build websites that work. However, I'm in a new industry so I'm having a hard time finding places that I can build backlinks from. I don't know a ton about tiered linking or PBNs but was wondering what to do and where to start...

Thanks in advance

You can start with on-site page optimization. Link building without good on-site search optimization isn’t going to be as effective. Build quality content for the site. You can have blog post, infographics, Videos, Tutorials & How To Guides and Industry Articles. Creating quality content for your website can be a huge investment, but it is worth it because search engines will love it. Then you can do the link building. Create back links to authoritative websites. Lastly, promote your website to social media channels.

What are some good resources to ensure that you have quality content on your site? I know a few free sources but I'd like to hear what others use as well.

If you are publishing what your visitors want, you are publishing quality content. You don't need any tool to evaluate and rate the quality of your content.

I think that is what I needed to hear just to make sure that I'm off to a good start. Also, what by definition is a web2.0? (And thanks for the warm welcome from the group!)

Web 2.0 used to mean second tier 3rd party sites like Squidoo, HubPages and the like. Social media used to be included in that area, but honestly web 2.0 is an old phrase (in internet years, anyway). It was cutting edge once upon a time.

Now social and mobile have taken the position that web 2.0 used to hold.

Hi, first of all welcome to warriorforum.

There is 3 main point that maybe important at start.

    1. SEO -> you need to focus on your content first. It is really important
    2. Link Building -> link your blog post or article to another internal article. Get some Tier 1 from WEB2.0 or wiki or bookmark and directory site.
    3. do some guest post from another site. It can give you good link back to your site.

      Hey kevin.

I am new to SEO too. I saw someone was able to get a link to his website in a internal link posted on a website.

How do you go about doing that. Do you have to email the writer/publisher to add that in for you?

I am really interested in doing this but I have no clue how to make it happen.

Maybe sign in as guest and try to contact the writers who write about my niche?

Sounds like a typical press release to me. Get a writer to type you out a nice article and then focus on syndication.

I'd save the tier 1 links for guest blogs and the backlink to those guest blog posts via Web2.0's and high authority blog comments. That would be more natural.

I agree that on-site optimization and an abundance of high quality content is the main priority when you first start, nevertheless just building backlinks with great SEO metrics can boost you in the SERPS. Doesn't mean you will stay there for very long though.

You should start with some basic reverse-engineering and see what your competitors are doing in terms of link building. The niche you've mentioned can't be lacking competitors, even if it's new, as you said. So just take the urls of some of your competitors, and google them with commas like this "http://url.com".
If this doesn't work then just stop trying to bring targeted links and focus more on value (quality content) + normal non-targeted link building.

Mainly focus on web masters tools, the more you index the more you generate the traffic and also follow the on page techniques as well as off page.

SEO is a living breathing thing that changes constantly. Content is a big one as many have said. I got into this with no idea about anything and found a lot of info you will find on the net is outdated so be sure to check dates when articles are written. For all the changes google makes I would just focus on the content, use social media etc. Each time google has changed I found my stats uptick every time. Make sure you know your niche well! If you do, and can write about it well, you will see a gradual increase as people find you.If your and affiliate/reseller, people are tempted to use autowriter programs or copy and paste that populates blogs etc. Don't do it. It may work early but google will find it and you be left with a lot to do to get traffic back. As for links, I use twitter a lot to see what is trending in a niche, and developing relationships with those who tend to be the go to's in that niche to find and get quality links, not so much quantity. Again, I am a reseller, so I also focus on selling top quality so $$ wise, I try to focus on quality and programs that retain customers, and those are usually the most sought after ones which bring in more search traffic.

Also, make sure to keep up with googles webmasters blog, and if you see flucuating stats I often just google "google algorithm" and filter search results for the newest posts and see if there is a lot of new chatter and those articles often mention recent google comments on what they may or may not be doing as far as targeting spammy sites. Often what may have worked in the past is now a no-no, even if google promoted those practices in the past.

I agree with you guys that quality content is a key factor and one needs to supplement their site/blog with fresh and relevant posts. However, I need 2 clarifications:
First, how do you link your blog post or article to another internal article?
Second, how to get backlink from local business directory?

    Thanks in Advance!

    Step 1:

First check your competitor what they do? How many fans on Social Site? Which site they take leverage for traffic? Check those Backlinks (using ahrefs or majesticseo)?

    Step 2:

Do Proper On-page and then Download Screaming Frog is great tool finding all on-page errors like duplicate content, missing H1,H2 and more

    Step 3:

Write quality Content for your website and post with targeted keywords.

    Step 4:

Find your Content related Communities and Groups on Facebook, Linkedin, Goolge+ and share your content without Spam.

    Step 5:

Make good 140 character tweet and Tweet to related People those are interested related the topic.

    Step 6:

I appreciate all the input. I will be sure to start hitting it hard. I've been doing some research and it looks like our competitors aren't really doing much of anything SEO wise. Thanks again for the help!

Try and keep some of these things in mind this is just the beginning:

•Always look good in Google's eyes.
•Google relies on many ranking factors beyond keywords.
•Small factors can impact rankings between websites.
•It is simply strategies website owners use to increase ranking and traffic from the search engines.
      •Keyword placement is important.
•Show relevance, but do not go overboard here
•Anchor text of websites going to you should be normal.
•Watch out for including keywords in your anchor text.
•Anchor text is the blue underlined text.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      •Reputation is huge.
•Social signals, quality content, social engagement.
      •Responsive or mobile friendly websites.
•Google places a big weight on responsive websites.
•Use Google Analytics to remove pages getting high bounce rates.
•Look at pages getting 90% to 100% bounce rate.
•Make sure you have a blog in place.
•Creates link building opportunities and freshness.
      •Website load time.
•User experience is very important to Google.

Hope it helps and Gook Luck with your Online Goals!
