How much do you really need?

Hey, what kind of links and how many of them do you really need to rank something with medium competition?

I want to get an idea of what is needed by putting a number to it all. Also, how much would your method cost?

Scenario #1 (no PBN):
-only web 2,0's, social media backlinks and profile backlinking etc.
-you can make them in any way that will not get you penalized.

Scenario #2 (PBN with 2-4 PR 2-4)
- Social Media backlinking, profile backlinking, web 2.0s.
-anything that won't get your site penalized.

Given the two scenarios, what would you do to rank a site? Would you channel social links through something and back to your site? Would you channel them through your PBN? How about straight to your site?

How many links do you really need of how much authority/pr?

Thanks for any answers.

You can stick with social media for sure, page rank is not considered or is not expected to be updated again. However, see that you try to get links from high PA, DA sites, also see that the links that you are obtaining is from relevant niche to yours.

Scenario 2 wins every single time.

The guy above is wrong. The SEO benefits of social media is negligible at best. Pagerank is still the most relevant indication of domain power, as long as you check the backlinks are still there.

It's hard to tell you exactly how many links, as "medium competition" is such a broad term.

I hear that channeling social media through other dofollow links give them significantly more power.

I tried to use "medium competition" to narrow it down, but I see what you mean.

How about really "low competition"? (easy, easy keywords)

and what about a "high competition" search like: https://www.google.com/search?q=mvp+...sm=93&ie=UTF-8 ?

Can you put a number to those?
      X number of DA links
Y number of such and such.

      Thanks

    Hard to say,
Whats medium to me could be easy or really hard to you, or vice versa, upside down and back-to-front.

I said it before and it got some love, so I'll say it again.

Take the very best links you can find, and throw them all at that main keyword. If it doesn't rank. Change them to another (easier) keyword. If it still doesn't rank, try another. And if it still doesn't rank, try McDonald's.

I guess "Authority" is the most applicable term now for Pagerank.

Just to share, from the last google updates (Penguin) I was able to get my site climbed up from 5th to 2nd and now to 1st page (just last Friday) with content marketing and social networking, well web 2.0 also. I don't really count the backlinks but I make sure to deliver quality content, and then use social networking site to target more audience. With regards to keywords, I don't actually focus on the competition but I focus on longtail keywords that is combined with target generic keyword or stemmed keyword.

      Thanks for the info.

Content marketing is referring to article directories? Or just on-site content.

Can you estimate the links you used? (0-10, 10-50, 50-100)

What was the search volume of your ranking keywords?

Links from sites that naturally link to yours are some of the best. Usually you can get this type of links by submitting an interesting press release that people will want to write about on their website.

Social links won't help you rank. You need editorial links from blogs related to your niche - how you get em is up to you!

Depends what you treat as medium competitive.

10 Dedicated PR2-PR4 domains will get you a long way.

By dedicated you mean related websites(hair growth, hard comb, hairstyles etc.)? Thanks for the post.
