Header tags are definitely not as important to SEO as it once was, but I think the h1 tag in particular still gives search engines like google an indication of what the webmasters want google to think the page is about.

Other than that, the header tags are mostly used for easy styling and theme consistency, so you have the same titles, subtitles, sub subtitles on every page.

The heading tags (H1, H2, etc) have never been important elements. Just another widely spread myth. Headings are important, while heading tags are not necessarily important at all.

It isn't the "tag" that is important. It is the prominence of rendered text on the page that is important. This is basic SEO that goes back to the original Backrub whitepaper published by Page & Brin.

You can create a heading using any number of tags (p, a, span, div, em, b, etc.) and CSS. Google doesn't rely on webmasters to create headings using semantically correct HTML. They can recognize a heading created with any kind of tag. An h1 tag that renders text the same size as all other text on the page carries no significance in SEO. Any element that can wrap text and render it larger than other text can be used to create a heading, and it is the size of the text, as rendered, that influences keyword relevancy not the tag that wraps it.

H1 has great importance - with H1 google see what is your page is actually about. So try to put a keyword at the beginning of your H1, f.e. "Main keyword on Sitename in State/Coutry/City".
H2's are used to structure your text. Not a secret that google loves good structured text, so try to use 1 to 3 H2's in any articles and put secondary KW's in it

      ROTFLMAO!

I can't believe this crap got any real replies.

      Blind leading the blind.

You come to the WF, and you are instantly an SEO genius. Hang up a shingle,
and then we wonder where people get lousy info from.

They get lousy info from idiots who claim to be seo geniuses.

You could replay this reply numerous times a day.

Crappy posters asking or replying nonsense, all the while have "SEO" in
      their sigs.

To the other geniuses here in this thread...
h1 is NOT a header tag.

More blind leading the blind. If you have no clue as to what h1 actually
is, don't reply with some idiotic "header" chirp.

I knew a guy who heard a guy who quoted a guy who lives next door
to a guy, and now I am an SEO genius.

      LOL...

You're offering a SEO service but you do not know the answer of your question? You must be the first one to answer your question.

The tags from H1 To H6 are must used in your web page and not compulsory to use all H tags. Its main to use H1 tag due to where google can come to know what you page is for.And use any other one tag.

Yeah, headings aren't important. Ignore the fact that Google will swap them out with your title for search query relevancy...

    Nothing to look at there.

My favorite thing about the "affordable seo company" is the testimonials at the bottom of the homepage that have no names attached to them! It really gives me a good feeling about their "company". LOL!

  • Heading tags play very important role in SEO as with the help of H1 tag Google will come to know what is your page all about. Also, heading tags provide proper structuring of the website.

    Hi,

H1 and H2 tags are very important in SEO point of view. Google crawlers will give great value to these tags.

These both tags (H1 and H2) play a vital role in SEO. An H1 tag is the most important and highest level tag that specify the information regarding your web page. H1 is usually more important as compared to H2. The search engine gives more preference to the header tags while crawling so it helps in better ranking of the website.
