Currently I had a family friend of mine tell me about his SEO program. He told me they do SEO based on results. Meaning you only pay if they can rank you. Sounds great in theory. But when I started diving into there business model I noticed a few things.

The website they are doing SEO for is San Diego Criminal Attorney - Criminal Defense Lawyer | Ross Law Center

I spoke to the head of SEO from that company and said I think your links are very spammy. I was told by him that Google does not necessary look at this. Hmmm.. Okay..

What are your guys thoughts on the links being created by this company for my friend at San Diego Criminal Attorney - Criminal Defense Lawyer | Ross Law Center

http://www.yelp.com/biz/ebusinessfirm-chula-vista-2

I just found there yelp page too.

Here are the first two pages I found linking to that site.

    Dr. | Emotion

    Chris Wimmer

It is nothing but an incredibly shitty blog network.

It is not a matter of if your friend's website will tank. It is a matter of when will it tank.

I don't know, I looked at the Chris Wimmer site and now, in one convenient place, I know where to get my carpet cleaned, my plumbing repaired, buy solar panels for my home, get mold cleaned from my house, and my dental work done. Sure I need to scroll through about 100 links to sites to find those, but other than that, very handy!!

That are the type of links that can easily get you penalized these days, especially if you solely rely on them.

All my Amazon had only these type of links, they all tanked, after I added excerpts to all the linking sites so that the links didn't show up on home/category page anymore they all recovered.

Maybe a quick fix, maybe not, either way I wouldn't rely on such links anymore.

Excerpts or not, that sort of network still sucks and will still get caught.

Yeah tell that to me that hasn't lost a domain for 2,5 years already (besides some on SEO hosts but that doesn't count as that's asking for trouble).

The tanking of my Amazon sites had nothing to do with getting caught, it was just a new Penguin 3.0 thing as none of my domains were deindexed (all on solid hosts). The recovery obvious proofs that.

With badlinks you will be penalized, I wouldn't recommend going after any of those type of services. You'll have to pay for Link Removal after the process while your keywords tanked.

Nik0... I don't care about your service. I don't care about your Amazon sites.

I understand. You think of SEO from the point of view as a backlinker because that is what you sell. You need to think of the bigger picture.

That kind of network has huge problems. The company is competing in San Diego criminal law. Hugely competitive and hugely lucrative. I would bet that every listing in the top 20 has an SEO working for them. If you think a blatant shitty network like that with crappy content and awful links to all kinds of sites is not going to get reported and outed on an almost daily basis, you are kidding yourself. Those SEOs are going to do everything they can to get that network taken down.

Hell, I have seen where SEOs will post a thread on a forum like this asking how the site can possibly be ranking when they are using a network like that, for the sole purpose of getting it in front of Google.

(EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, that is probably what the OP is doing. Lol.)

On top of that, for protecting their brand, they should not want anything to do with a network like that. I would never want my company even mentioned on sites with such junk.

I understand your point, but getting reported numerous times doesn't equal getting deindexed, Google is real lazy from that point of view, yes I'm not kidding with you.

I've ranked a dozen of lawyers myself from personal injury to patent attorneys, and tons of other niches as well where SEO's are active, heck in the past I've ranked keywords like Atlanta SEO, Orlando SEO and a few more and not just at the bottom of page one.

It's not like I advise people to do it like this, after all I mostly moved away from that model but I'm the ultimate proof that it can last for much longer than most think.

Nik0, did you take a look at the sites Mike showed? My web2s look like Trump plaza compared to those sites. I think you should really take a look.

Whatever someone does to their own sites, selling that kind of link building publicly is just criminal. Like a 100% Rank And Tank service, I'd use that kind of network for Neg SEO.

I checked them out before I posted my comment, they look exactly like my PR3/PR4 network that I adjusted with excerpts to prevent having too many links on the same page as this setup of a network tanked me completely, and as said, now recovered.

Now we don't use that network in my monthly service anymore as we switched to dedicated domains for clients. Only one huge client still buys posts on that old network and he's doing fine with it as well and as said, I didn't have any domains deindex over the years. Once again, the only ones deindexed were not a result of reporting but Google making a manual attack on SEO hosts like they did many times.

It seems all Google does is lower the PR to remove the incentive from the buyer once in a while but I haven't seen any proof that links from such domains are weaker then from any others, yes I tested it numerous times placing links only on domains with a lowered PR so I know what I'm talking about.

Sometimes I have the idea Google just ignores the backlink profile completely when you report someone and only looks if the site is up to Google's quality guidelines, think of cloaking, malicious files, thin content and what not.

    Here is what I think...

Spamming law firm anchor text links on an IM forum will do the firm's link profile no good at all either.

Google will always find your spammy backlinks. So if this guy is having someone backlink from various sites with no regard to the content on those sites or if the sites being linked from are not related or considered authority sites, then the site being linked to will get some kind of manual spam action. Google notices everything.

Curtis at eBusinessFirm claims Google does not look at the network instead that if the content is unique that is all that matters and you get a back link to it. I think they have a really great business model by spamming their clients websites to rank and then charging them. I'm curious if there clients know about this tactic. I am just upset that my friend is using this company and isn't being told the methods they are using to rank his site. Would you guys recommend disavowing all these links?

There is no need to disavow them. Disavow does not guarantee anything, and they could still come back to hurt the site.

There is not reason the SEO company should not be able to remove the links. That is the ideal solution.

Look at the network. Eventually someone will, be it competitors or G themselves. Random subjects by random clients, keywords surrounded by nonsensical words. Pure crap.

Listen to that right there.. rank, bank, and after they get their $$$, spank and tank. Quite the professional model.

Be careful of amateur SEO specialist for they may harm your business or services credibility.

If your links are spammy in your opinion then you better tell him to minimize this. Spammy = annoying. I had a Dr. client who also had this problem at first -- it really had an impact on his business. Instead of clients driving to his office -- some of them tried to avoid him because of the SEO thing.

    Best regards,
    Aaron
